Bluecat, I'd be more worried about man-made dangers like hooks and old trotlines, or getting stuck in a crevice than snakes and turtles. Luckily, 99.8% of the the snakes we see in central Texas are banded water snakes, contrary to popular belief. If you are worried about turtles, just wear thick gloves and you'll be fine.
I'll tell you the most painful thing that has happened to me while noodling, and they freak me out and that's crawdads. I keep getting pinched by the stupid things.

Be glad you don't have to deal with zebra mussels. I too used to wear shorts like you guys have on in your pics. Since they have exploded here, you'll notice I noodle in wranglers now. If we didn't here you get cut to shreds. Bluecat, I'd be more worried about man-made dangers like hooks and old trotlines, or getting stuck in a crevice than snakes and turtles. I found some really good looking spots on Lewisville tonight while bow fishing. Some concrete slabs in about 4 foot of water and another area with big slab rock. Anyone in the area wanna try to come noodle it with me? Ive never done it, so I'd like to have someone with some experience there. I have a boat to get us there.

I was on lavon yesterday and saw several people noodling. Only thing was they all had fishin rods about 5 1/2 ft long with a hook on the end of it. Don't seem right to me but everyone of them said that is the way everybody does it!

Stinkbait, this is why they make cell phones! Call the Gwarden imediatly and turn those guys in. These are the people that will get the sport ripped from us! Please turn them in as soon as you see this kind of behavoir. The reason I've always said that noodling will not decimate the pop. is that you can't catch most of the fish you find. These guys will, and that will hurt. If they got some of those 1,000 fines, they'd either quit or go broke. Everyone does not use a hook. Dang I wish I was there, I would have photod them and sent the calvary. I was on lavon yesterday and saw several people noodling. Yes, you will swell up and get sick as he)). Didn't get anti V on either of mine but one was only one fang and the other got stuck in my wallet. Guess you can't actually count that as a bite really, but close enough. Your ankle will also turn a rainbow of colors. You have to know the group of guys I run with also stitch one another up, and don't like docs.

Don't seem right to me but everyone of them said that is the way everybody does it! Definitely should have called the game warden on those guys. That basically amounts to snagging fish in my opinion. No sport what-so-ever involved with using a hook on a fishing rod. I can assure you, that is not the way everyone does it.

Ok I've got a couple questions. I see your total for the year so far, just wondering when you started? Also, what kind of water temp are you looking for? When do you need to start looking in the deep water?
Thanks!!!
