The last 30 plus days on Falcon has been some of the hottest action I have ever seen on this lake, especially with respect to DD bass. With that said did we have some days that were less than impressive? Sure, but thankfully those days are few and far between. We had an astronomical day about a month ago where we boated 117 fish, had a 41 pound sack and more 6 to 8 lb fish in a day than I have ever seen. I also saw on two different trips where the first fish boated was an 11 lb beast. Truely blessed to say the least. My website is nearly done, but in the meantime you can check out all the action on a daily basis on my blog that is up and running.

http://thefalconreport.blogspot.com/

To the report:

Hazards-

1.) The old Velano bridge has maybe 2 foot on the rails....maybe. I drove all around it today and it is going to come into play in a bigtime way unfortunitally. Whats even worse is that it was marked a few days ago by James and Billy, just to have somebody remove the markers. crazy If you are coming to Falcon please avoid going between the marks shown on the screen shots below.

Write down those coordinates and I would stay to the West side of the bridge.

2.) The next hazard isnt much of a problem now because it can be seen easily in daylight, but I will still post the coordinate.....these narly trees are right in the middle of the channel just South of Diablo.

Ramps

1.) County......be careful. When in doubt just be patient and make dang sure you dont go off either edge, dont worry about trying to fit two people. Worry about not busting up your trailer.

2.) State Park....middle ramp only and its still working great. Here is the problem and it is a really big problem. As you leave the ramp area and head towards the mouth the depth will shoot up to ~2 ft of water. Where you launch is still roughly 6 ft. I promiss you will bottom out if you dont shut down prior to that 2 foot hump in front of the mouth of the channel. I was flipping some hardwood trees within sight and saw an individual learn the hard way.

Fishing:

Where:

The lake is fishing great from North to South. The strongest bite for numbers is inside of 10 foot of water and in the hardwoods. If you are looking for that trophy fish and want to give yourself the best opportunity at landing it, you need to look for those ledges, humps and long points that have what else? Rocks. Look for those tight contour lines where you have sharp drops near the main river channel and creek arms.

When:

My morning bite of late has been terrible. When that sun gets high in that sky and starts to cook us, those fish seem to really get chomping.

What:

The crankbait bite continues to be strong for big fish and also numbers. I have been throwing them on 8 and 10 lb fluoro in efforts to get as much depth on them as possible. Retie often. Check out my go to cranks of late.

The jig bite has been a lot better of late and really good up in the hardwoods. I have been working a lot with Tommy Law's Hammerhead Jig and it is an incredibly versitile jig. I have used it in rocks at 30ft and trees in 3ft and it has performed very well in both applications. I like the chunk trailer for the trees and a rage lobster for the rocks.

The Ball n Chain from Paydirtcustomjigs.com continues to amaze me. It thrives with a new Falcon Hog from TLCbaits.com and also does very well with a yum money minnow, yes a Yum money minnow. A gentlemen that I took out (TFF member) gave me a first hand lesson. Unreal the type of success he had with that set-up.

The best big fish bait going right now, and in my opinion its not even close, is the Falcon Fluke. I team them up with Yum Shad F2 spray....squirt that stuff in the bag and marinate. If you want a DD head for a 15 to 30 ft rock ledge with a crig and have one of these on the back and good luck.

Be sure to protect your knot on those heavy crigs by putting a bobber stop between the glass bead and knot as shown in the pic below.

People ask me all the time what was my best trip of the Month of year, etc. and its tough to answer that because I value every trip and every trip is special whether you catch 117 or 17. With that said I have a clear cut number one trip and just so happened to be today.

Thanks TFF, my family and I appreciate it. I will post several pics from the past 30 to 40 days.

Jay

Very Cool Report! Good job!

I like the bobber stopper as a knot protector....I learned something new. Thanks!

That has to be one of the best reports on a lake I've ever read.
I'm looking forward to the website.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.
