Please keep in mind that fish cannot be caught from one public lake and released into another public lake without a permit from TPWD. I'd suspect most of these fish will be transported on ice, but I thought I'd mention it. If re-stocking is being considered, I'd suggest calling the local TPWD fish management office to inquire about the permit. Their phone number is 254-666-5190.

I would hope fish have to be weighed alive! Lisa, will you please clarify this. Don't want to fish against frozen fish that were caught weeks ago!

Yes we are aware that fish will not be able to be returned to the Texas Waters. We have some volunteers that are going clean the catfish, bag and freeze the fish and then donate the frozen fish to the local West Shore Volunteer Fire Department to use at the annual Texas Largest Fish Fry on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend here in Laguna Park.

I only have two teams registered so far, but in previous tournaments everyone always waits til the last day....(the planner in me is driven nuts by this). However, NOON on Friday is fast approaching so if anyone needs a registration form or more information, give me a call at 254-227-2622 or brspecialevents@yahoo.com. You can fax (254-622-2092) or email me your registration form and then call and pay using a credit or debit card.

On our other tournaments that we have through out the year where anglers are only allowed to fish on Lake Whitney, we always release the fish back into Lake Whitney.

There are several reasons why releasing fish from one reservoir into another is a bad idea. In this case, the major reason would be the possibility of transporting zebra mussels into Whitney or another uninfected reservoir. Although Texoma isn't in the range of the tournament, other reservoirs where zebra mussel dna has been detected are. Zebra mussel larvae can be transported in livewell water and adults eaten by blue catfish can remain viable.

Unfortunately, in a tournament set up this way where fish are weighed in at a central location, the best thing for the local fishery is if the fish are sacrificed and eaten.
