Has anyone found a good talapia color pattern crankbait? I bought the CRD talapia H20 crankbait from academy the other day and I think it looks pretty good. I also think they have the crs+ if you don't want it going that deep. I forget what colors they are but James at Falcon Lake Tackle showed me some Norman colors that were very good. The short answer is probably all the major crank bait companies have good talapia colors.

clear water and clear skies = shad pattern
clear water and cloudy skies = shad pattern
clear water and dark skies = shad pattern w/chartreuse
stained water and clear skies = shad pattern
stained water and cloudy skies = shad pattern
stained water and dark skies = shad w/ chartreuse
dirty water and clear skies = shad w/ chartreuse
dirty water and cloudy skies = shad w/ chartreuse
dirty water and cloudy skies = shad w/chartreuse
If you feel you need more chartruese, dip your finger in the dye bottle and rub it on your crankbait or use a marker. I try to keep it simple for my simple mind. Because I still havent figured out when to switch from throwing splattered taco salad colored crankbait to a spicy avocado colored crankbait

This time of year I like a chartreuse/blue back in the mornings or in low light conditions and more natural shad type colors with a little bit of glitter or sparkle when the sun is up.

Keeping you crankbait choice simple can work, but you will catch a few more fish if you can really key in on what the bass are eating on your body of water during that time of year.

Does it have blue? Check
Does it have chartreuse? Check
Does it have a little orange? Check
Must be the right color haha. That's my theory Sounds like a sunfish. What if the bass are keying on shad? Seems to me like you are not maximizing your catch. Ever looked at chart in dirty water. It turns almost silver. I catch plenty of fish on my cranks.
I can backlash toilet paper.

reaction bite plays huge part in cranking color comes second I have to disagree, take for example this past weekend tournament. I was on a good Squarebill bite for a week on a color that I'll call hot mustard (custom color). It's literally between chart and root beer just closer to root beer. Well the fish were just slapping at it. I changed from a brown back to a dark purple back and they started choking it. Exact same color minus the back color change. Color does play into it and always will. Why I keep 4 squarebills on my deck when I'm cranking shallow. It always gets narrowed to one though

That was my point in the original post! I think color is the most overlooked aspect of crankbait fishing.

A wiser and much better angler and I were fishing one day. We were both fishing a shad pattern crankbait and having good success. Later in the day the bite slowed down and we were into muddier water. I dug around and tied on a chatreuse bait and caught a fish or two. I asked him if he was gonna change colors and he replied,"why?, the the shad don't change colors"......thinking he was being a smartarse I laughed. Needless to say at the end of the day he had caught more and bigger bass than I did. Driving home I realized what he said was genius. Fact is we have all been told in dirty water you go darker for bait choices yet the fish and the baitfish actually get more pale. Fact is a shad is a shad is a shad no matter what type of water its in. A bream is a bream no matter what type of water its in. Color is just an extension of our own confidence at times. Throw what makes you feel best and don't get so caught up in trying to match the hatch every second. The common thread I see in all great anglers at the higher levels is how simple they keep things. Wow!  That's awesome. I went back and read this twice. Thanks for sharing. +2. I also had to skim through that a second time. That sounds like something an oldtimer would have said and he would be correct. It's a great way to keep the tackle troll at bay too!
