Is a 7,6 heavy action with a high speed reel to much guts for a little texas rig?

Not at all. Sounds like a good set up to me.

I love that set up for shallow texas rig especially. Get them out of cover and on plane to the boat.

I prefer a 6'6" MH, but 7'6" works just as well

Not sure what your definition of a "small texas rig" is but my personal prefrence for lighter/smaller profile plastics and jigs (5/16 oz and less) is a 7 to 7-4 medium heavy action. I do like the higher geer ratio in case I have some chaseing to do. Wind , current and rough conditions can trump this but during calmer conditions I like the better feel that a lighter reod and action can provide.

A heaver set up is very do-able though using the lighter stuff but IMHO you are going to loose some touch and feel in doing so.

Sounds like a good falcon lake setup to me.

IMHO you lose too much sensativity with a heavy action. A good MH 7' rod is plenty if you have good line.

I like a 7' MH. Heavy would be a little much for me on the T-rig, I use a heavy for my flipping jigs though.

6'6" MH for me. I want to fish the rod. I don't want the rod to fish me.
