I'm wearing mine from the time I hop in to the time I hop out. I love my family and friends to much to put them through that. But sometimes I dream about Zombie giving me Mouth to Mouth......

Ok, I'll be the first to admit, I don't wear one. In Texas it's not required to be worn, but you must have it easily accessible, which means you can't have it inside the kayak. Inflatable PFDs must be worn at all times when on the water, and I do wear mine when I decide to go that way. But, 90% I'm not wearing a PFD. I wear mine when on lakes, but when I am on a pond or in a creek or a river like the Brazos, it is on the back of my seat. Mine is very comfortable, but it is really hot in the summer. I wear it all winter long though. Steve

IMO everyone always needs to wear one on the water. Most people don't want to though, esp in the summer.

Has anyone tried the lightweight Mustang inflatable model for $220?

I agree better hot then dead stick my feet in the water/go for swim life jacket should be mandatory my 2cents chances of being dead from not wearing a pfd are very slim. Its probably more dangerous to walk across the street. But Im pretty confident with anything concerning water since I grew up swimming and diving in the ocean all the time.

Most fisherman can probably swim well enough that they won't drown if they fall in. The problem is when you fall in a hit your head on a stump or your in the middle of the lake and the yak gets blown away from you or a number of other things. It's everyone's choice whether they wear one or just have it available but thinking that because your comfortable in water so it won't happen to you in my opinion isn't right. You would live through most car accidents without wearing a seatbelt but the reason you wear it all the time is for that one time you roll it in the ditch.

The bottom line is that you are never wrong to always wear your PFD. Check out North American Safe Boating Campaign on Facebook. They update all the time with " saved by the life jacket" stories.
Wear It

I always wear mine now days. I used to only sit on it. After reading so many people dying less than 100 yards from shore, I just wear it.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack
