Tie the leader to the swivel first, second tie the main line to the swivel and finally tie the hook to the leader. +1 that is the best way to do it.

I used to use the palomar exclusively, never had a problem. then I bought fluorocarbon line. I broke a lot of fish off on the hook set, right at the knot. I hooked a fish in a bush once and pulled him through the branches to the surface. He was stuck right on top. I decided to try to lift him out with the rod. I could actually see that 17 lb fluoro slipping and backing out of the knot. like slow motion, I couldn't believe it. I lost that fish, and more importantly, my jig. I saw on here a lot of guys like the double San Diego jam knot, I'm going to that.

I use the Pitzen Knot for most all my tackle on all line, mono, fluoro & braid. It's a San Diego Jam without going thru the loop at the hook side, only go thru the top loop, so it's easier and quicker and I have yet to have it come untied while fishing so I don't concern myself with another 5% or so of rated knot strength. I also use the Palomar when appropriate, like a drop shot hook, or when I just happen to feel like it. And I use the Double Uni to tie lines together. So there's my 3 knots.

Have tried them all and the very best by far is the Double San Diego Jam Knot.

Double improved clinch if I feel compelled to use fluoro- which isn't often.

I am not sure what the name of the knot I tie is, but I end up with three tag ends when it is all said and done. Similar to the improved clinch, only I double the line at first and use the loop end as the tag end. Anyone know its name? JR
