Bullet, I think that the point could be argued on posession as well. The stringer is not used to catch the fish at all. It is however used to posess it, just as in any other form of fishing. Seems to me that this one would get thrown out of court faster than a short bass out of my boat! I think that's a little extreme. Makes it awfully hard to noodle when you have to continuously hold a previously caught catfish in your other hand.

Again, you are not using the stringer to land the fish or catch it. No different than wading for rod and line. you reel the fish in and take it off the hook. then its in your hand. At this point we are at the same point as having a fish pulled and in your hand. Both fish are placed on a stringer. Are we saying that the stringer was then used in landing the wading fish, no it was used to posess it. Same in noodling. Doesn't say anything about the use of a stringer in the 2012 TPWD Rules and Regs. Just says you can't use a gaff, pole, hook, trap, or spear. Or any other fishing device. Which I would say a stringer is. I Have personally talked to a Texas game warden and asked About using a stringer for noodling. And he told me that anything other than the use of your hands to land the fish is illegal. Be it stick, net, gaff or stringer.

So are we saying that as soon as we grab the fish it is caught or landed then you can string it. I just want to make sure what i do is not gonna land,me a big fat ticket.

I think once you drag the fish out of the hole and have him under control you can use the stringer to keep the catfish in your possession. I don't think a game warden would argue that point at all. Best thing to do would be to call your local gane warden and get his opinion. Since this is a new deal for both fisherman and wardens.
I just know off-limits goes off tomorrow and as soon as that tournament is over I'm going to go get my hands bit :-)

I'm not the game warden. I'm just letting you know what a couple of them told us at the tournament. I will tell you I will have a stringer on me everytime.

Just to clarify, I called and talked to the game warden where we fish. He said he will still not hassle me over a stringer. He also told me to call the commission on Monday morning and talk to the cheif of wardens. I will be doing this on monday morning. When he makes his decision I will let him know that I will be posting on this forum. I will then post and everyone will know either way. I will also give his name and contact, in case you guys run into any problems out there. Again, in my opinion and everyone elses in the fishing world. A stringer is a device used to posess fish, not catch them. My game warden agrees but he can't override your game warden. That's why I will call the cheif on Monday. I'll let you guys know then.
