Nice catch and report. I've never caught a Rio. Guess they just don't live where I fish???

Thanks "Feather jig" and "Dhogdog" for the replies. "Feather Jig": Rios are a very warm water fish. If you have cold winters up there where you live Rios usually will not survive. "Dhogdog": I just love catching those Bulls on Ultra light. The fight is simply outstanding.

Superb! Question....do you eat Rios? If so, how do they taste?
Where's the nearest place to DFW to try to tangle with them Rios? Thx.

"BankAFish": Rios are a very good eating fish. To me they are the easiest to filet. You can also scale and gut em. They are good fried, grilled, or baked. Rios cook up very well. As for the Dallas Ft. Worth Area, Rios are a warm water fish. Areas north of Austin seem to be have colder winters and thus no Rio population. The furthest North I have heard Rios being caught was Temple TX. Rios are usually found in South Texas, East Texas,West Texas, and the Shallow Hill Country. Now is a good time to catch em. They are starting to get very active and fishing should improve each day up until Mid October when the first cold fronts start arriving.

Those are awesome fish! I have never seen nor caught one of those Rio's. I guess we don't have them up here in East Texas. BigDozer66

Funny how the heads of those large Rios look like a hog's head. Ever notice that?

Thanks "Bigdozer 66" and "fish till I drop" for the replies. "Bigdozer 66": Rios are a very warm water fish and are in areas where the winter stays mild for most of the time. South Texas, Hill Country, and southeast Texas have the good populations of Rios. "Fish till I drop" : I have noticed the heads a lot. They are some of the most ugly fish and at the same time one of the most beautiful fish. Go figure.

The "RIO KING" strikes again! Those are HUGE! Looks like the pond fish are doing well. I have seen several ponds that are close by to where I live that appear to be open and easy to fish. May just have to give em a try!

Thanks Curtis. If you get a chance to fish those ponds give us a report. I was able to hit a small pond close by. Was able to get two small bass and a few small Gills. Nothing big but still some fun.
