The following is a transcript from the BassPro Customer service rep:
08:58:53 PM] Hi, my name is Charles. How may I help you?
[08:59:34 PM] jy: Can you give me any information on why all of the BassPro XPS Fluorocarbon was recalled and pulled from the shelves of every store?
[09:09:26 PM] Charles: Some of the spools were not wound correctly, and there were issues. We have pulled all the spools to be replaced with spools that are certified correct. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
[09:12:00 PM] jy:i have approximately 6 reels filled with XPS Fluoro, should I be concerned with performance?, and is BassPro going to offer any way for me to replace this defective line?
[09:13:55 PM] Charles: One moment, please. [09:18:02 PM] Charles: Thank you for your patience.
[09:18:27 PM] Charles: We can credit the purchased amount towards the purchase of other line or refund the amount. [09:18:51 PM] Charles: We do not yet have a firm date for when the new line will be in the stores again.
[09:19:36 PM] jy: sounds good. Do I do that at the local store?
[09:19:43 PM] Charles: Yes, you may. [09:20:06 PM] Charles: You may wish to contact them ahead of time. [09:20:34 PM] jy: thank you for your attention to this matter
So, I went to the BassPro in Bossier today, but they actually only gave me credit for the spools/cartons that I still had. Luckily, I happened to have 4 spools/cartons with some line left one them so I got about $100 worth of credit that I used towards a 1000 yd spool of Invisx.
Just wanted to let the TFFers know that you can get credit on a Basspro gift card to replace the defective line. Hope this helps some.
**just a side note, I caught a 10.33 on 17lb. XPS Fluoro before I heard about the problem, so I'm guessing this is a hit and miss issue, but I can't take the chance on having some of the bad stuff on one of my reels, so I am replacing it all. If you are not having issues with your line then why are you even posting about this and trying to make them look bad? And why would you replace all your line if nothing is wrong with it?

If you are not having issues with your line then why are you even posting about this and trying to make them look bad? And why would you replace all your line if nothing is wrong with it? [/quote] There IS a problem with performance with the line, otherwise BassPro wouldn't have pulled EVERY SINGLE SPOOL OUT OF EVERY SINGLE STORE! I didn't cause the problem for BassPro, nor am I trying to defame them. I just spent another $200 with them the same day I posted this, and have spent several thousand more already this year, and will continue to shop at Basspro. Now, from what I understand, the spooling issue causes weaknesses in the line, and BassPro had no way to identify which spools are the effected ones. The same day I caught the 10lber, I had a line break occur at hookset, and it broke near the rod, not near the hook, which is somewhat uncommon, and is due to a weakness in the line. Now, this weakness could have been from abrasion due to normal wear and tear such as contact with structure, limbs, etc, or sometimes happens due to guide issues on a rod(which I checked my guides when I retied and they were fine). The point is, there is no way to know WHAT caused it. So, when I heard about Basspro pulling all of their line, I investigated and generated the correspondence listed in the original thread. I could very well have had 4 spools of perfectly fine line, or I could have had defective line, Basspro obviously could not identify the defective spools, and neither can I. I fish in about 2 tournaments a month, and I do not have the confidence in their Fluoro. to "roll the dice" and hope that all goes well. If nothing else, it would be in the back of my mind everytime I hook up with a fish. I simply posted this thread to share what I know to be fact, objectively, to fellow TFFers who may be effected by BassPro's recall. I didn't bash their product or in anyway try to degrade BassPro. Quite the contrary, I believe BassPro identified that there was a problem, took steps to correct it, and to made the appropriate remedies to maintain their customer base, which is the aforementioned recall and refund to the effected customers.I posted this thread for those who were possibly unaware of the problem, or unaware of an avenue to address the problem to give them the information to use as they see fit. So, for you to make the supposition that I am in someway attempting to "make them look bad" was a reckless, uninformed comment that I take offense to. I stand by two main character issues and try to maintain them in my daily life, they are honesty and integrity. So, make sure you KNOW what you are talking about before you question either of these with me. I don't appreciate it, nor will I tolerate it.

For what its worth, thanks for posting this thread. I had no idea there was any recall until I read this.

Yes thanks for posting! Has someone said how far the recall goes back? Will they take back any XPS fluoro you have no questions asked?

In my opinion NOTHING compares to my InvisX. On a positive note at least they are taking care of the situation

Whoever you talked to at grapevine is misinformed. Ask them why they pulled their flouro off the shelf.

Actually they still had it on the shelves and no one had heard of the recall.

Took two 200 yard spools back today. Customer service rep at front desk said line was recalled due to nicking of line while it was spooled.
They gave me BPS card for the cost and I purchased a different brand of Flourocarbon line. Happy they handled it the way they did but I will not be using the XPS brand any longer.

Actually they still had it on the shelves and no one had heard of the recall. Yes they have heard of the recall. Maybe not the uniformed person or 2 you talked too but they know about it. They did pull all of their small spools of XPS flouro off the shelf as well. I went to grapevine too and got reimbursed for my purchases of XPS flouro. They are making good on it at least.

Taking 12 spools back to the SA store tomorrow. Customer Service rep I spoke with today was unaware of the problem but said no issue with the return.

I had a recent spool of 20# that, when I removed the plastic line holder from the spool, it had two tag ends spooling off in opposite direction. It actually appeared to me that the spool was over filled too. I didn't realize there was a recall either and will certainly be taking this spool and any others I have back. Thanks for the update! Anyone else actually experience any other issues pertaining to the recall?
