Hey folks, Starting a post here that has been requested for graph pics and explanations. Please remember that not everybody has the side scan units so post some regular stuff also smile this is for crappie only.

If you can also explain the pic and the unit you are using that would be helpful .. Lets try to help people figure their units out.

Members are also encouraged to ask questions smile

The levee under the 287 bridge on RC. Hard to believe but that is 2 schools of Blue cat.
From - 1 lbs. My heart skipped a beat when I first saw that. Thought I found a crappie bonanza.

Old 287 bridge they blew up before the lake filled up.

Columns under 287 bridge with stick condo sitting on tie beam, others on the bottom.

Six stick condos in shallow slough.

Richland Creek bridge in NM with Side/Scan.

Super photos, Kieth. Thanks for posting.

I'm curious, though, how do you know those schools are Blue Cats? And, how can you differentiate them from Crappie or SB if you can't get them to bite.

A lot of times I find this type of school, and the size looks like Sb or Crappie and nothing I throw tempts them. I'm left to wonder if these are what I think they are, or are they just big Shad.

These photos are realy helpfull, and I hope many more are posted.

Thanks all.

Several have asked about pictures of different species and how to identify the species in SI images. Nothing beats understanding the seasonal patterns and how fish relate and where they live on the fishery but Side Imaging can help in locating and finding the species you are looking for. Here are images of Crappie that should help in learning how to distinguish them when scanning for fish with your Humminbird. One thing about Crappie is they prefer to school together in groups and relate to structure.

Crappie on a Tree in SI:

Crappie on Bluff End in SI:

Crappie School without Zoom - see the sonar shadows? :

Crappie School in Zoom Box - makes it easier to ID:

Now using Humminbird's Exclusive Feature of SI Enhance Sharpness you can help fish "jump out" This series of images makes it easier to see the fish in this creek channel. SI Enhance will reduce image resolution but increase the ease of seeing fish. Are you looking for a Pretty Picture or Trying to Find Fish? If wanting to find more fish and ID them use SI Enhance Sharpness to help:

Can you tell which three trees have Crappie in them?

This may help...

Be sure to share your images of Crappie you have found and we can help each other learn more about using Humminbird Side Imaging and Down Imaging Products to help in catching more fish.

Eastexn: I knew they were blue cat because I caught several before I moved on.

And yes it is hard to tell SB from Crappie but, all of my shots are at good crappie locations. There may be a SB mixed in somewhere.

Thanks Keith.

And another question, Do large catfish show up on a graph the same as scale fish?? I've been told they have a different showing on a graph.

I hope this is not off topic.

Thanks

Any fish will show up on the graph, never seen a large catfish close to the bottom. But there is always the first time...
