I'm a crappie guy, but my buddy jseago here on the TFF lives to bass fish. He probably has some stories about me. I always bring 2 rods and usually just an academy bag. He tells me academy gives me a free tackle box with every purchase! Learned a lot about bass fishing from him. Last time I learned how expensive tungsten weights are! bolt

^^^^This!

There are only 3 people I fish with on a regular basis. Every now and then I will have a THF or TFF member go along with me but most of the time I am either by myself or with one of the 3 I have fished with for years.

He lost about $20 worth of baits and weight on one dock, but he sure hauled some fish out of it!

Oh my guy would learn a lot from me but he's too busy talking to his girlfriend. My uncle taught me everything I know and he use to fish in some pro tournaments.

I usually tell them how long we will be fishing in advance plus splitting on the gas for the truck and boat. They can't be late otherwise I leave without them. I'll be honest...I prefer to go alone. No one to stress me out. No complaint. No BS. I get to relax catching or not. It's my time with the lake.

The lesson here is to do your due diligence before you take a person "Bass Fishing" and avoid losing a friend and a day of "Bass fishing."

You have no one to blame but yourself for a bad first time "Bass fishing" partner.

Sometimes it's helpful to say what is expected. If somebody hasn't fished in a few years or with a pro, they don't really know what is expected.

I fished hard, didn't complain and the guy still got mad at me. We tangled lines once and he caught a fish and I wasn't fast enough on the net.

Never took me again because I failed his "pro" test.

Some people need help. If they are on time, try hard, try to help, stay all day and help pay give them some credit where credit is due.

Please. Don't treat them like they are stupid. There is a difference between being stupid and not knowing. I would love to fish with people but I'm afraid to ask now because it's like some secret world that if you don't know what you are doing you are an idiot. Not everybody knows what it takes to be a pro.

So relax with the people that try hard.

Oh I did. I wouldn't take that lazy fool out either...

Some of the stories since then are ...well...

Don't forget we all started out at some time.

I would rather go solo myself. I have a friend thats a bank beater and if we are fishing in my boat and I want to fish 15 feet of water. He keeps ask why don't we go over there. He would rather catch 12 inch fish vs fish little deeper and hook a big one. Not to say big fish only hang out in 15 ft of water but you know what I mean.

Here is the trick everyone is missing: if you take someone out you have to make it exciting or they are gonna wanna go home, you have to spice it up a little. I bet if you are catching record size fish left and right anyone would be entertained to say the least. I have had the biggest pusses decide to stay after the fish start biting at 11 pm. every situation is different, have a positive attitude and try to keep the other person in a good mood... My favorite saying is " if you ask me when we are leaving again I am gonna fish an extra hour. one hour more every time you ask"!

Thank god, I didn't come up any of theses stories, lol. I've got a few, but I still fish with them, so I won't name anybody.

Funny stories for sure.
There is a guy that just moved to town that has been asking me to take him. He said how great a fisherman he was. Last saturday he was asking me again at my daughters wedding reception, our preacher was sitting between him and I. My preacher asked him what the biggest bass he ever caught was. He said "I hold the New Mexico state record for largemouth bass, 22lbs8oz".
Needless to say he is not going with me, never was. And probably going to hell for lying to a baptist preacher.

Retirement best job ever.
