Canoes are pretty good to fish out of. I use mine as kind of a 'secondary' boat when we go camping and don't want to tow the big boat or to the small local lakes. Shot a lot of ducks out of it too. Standing is not the best idea in most canoes. You can but it's still not the best idea. I can get two folks, gear and a cooler in it and run in 5-6" water without a problem.
Mine is a 1954 15' Aluminum Grumman. Made by Grumman Aircraft Co. 50 years old this year and still not a hint of a leak! This old boat epitomizes the saying, 'They don't build 'em like they used to'.

We go ona float/fishing trip down the Buffalo National River each year and we use Old Towne Discovery 169 models.
Sometimes we beat the $%$# outta them, but they always handle it.

P.S. where are you going to dove hunt this year? If you are going to be around Owens the weekend following the 1st stop by the "Turkey Barn" (second gate) stop on by for a cool adult beverage. It is a glass boat, with glass seats. Sorry, I don't have a photo of it. I'll be hitting the North dove opener out by Breckenridge, and hitting the South dove opener down south of San Antonio. I know exactly where Owens is...very, very small town out west. Have family not too far from there

Hey Guys... This morning my canoeing buddy and I headed for Cartwright park and went canoeing on the lake there, so I had my second lesson in Canoeing 101. I found his paddles to be too short for me,but my paddling is improving, alot more quiet, and did not hit the canoe... Does your height have a bearing on what size paddle, you should be using, I am 5'5... ML

There's a book called Path of the Paddle by Bill Mason that is very informative on different paddle strokes and handling of canoes. I use a 43" paddle and I'm 6'2". It takes practice to feel comfortable moving around in a canoe. A good idea, especially this time of year, is to get in a few feet of water and intentionally tip the canoe so you can see what your limits are.
what we need is another Joseph McCarthy

Sancho... Thanks for the info on the book. The guy that is teaching me 'Canoeing 101', also said the same thing about tipping the canoe over... That will probably be next weeks lesson...
