What's the easiest to fish calm water from? Any real advantages of one over the other? How to keep your backsides dry? Any real price differences? Thanks, A clueless kayak wannabe

Both are capable of fishing purposes. I have a Pungo 120 (sit-inside) and a Tarpon 120 (sit-on-top). For fishing lakes or streams, they both function pretty much the same. In the winter, the pungo is nice becuase you sit inside and stay dry, but you can also use scupper plugs and/or wear waders to stay dry in a sot. Probably the biggest advantage of a sot is that it is self-bailing, but for fishing calm waters, it probably won't matter. However, as an example, you wouldn't prefer fishing out of a sit-inside when fishing in the surf where it's possible to overturn your boat. Other than that they are really comparable. As far as I know, there aren't really any big price differences.

Hi Arlon,

If there is a shop in your area that rents kayaks, I'd suggest you try some out first to find one that meets YOUR desires. Me personally, I have two - a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 with rudder (this is my main boat) and a WS Tarpon 120 for the wife or fishing buddy. Both are Sit-ons.

Chris

is the 140/120 14ft/12ft? Just curious. I also want something I can throw into my bay boat to get into some more remote areas. Do you know the approx. weights of those?

The tarpons are really popular boats for fishing. I would guess the most popular in Texas. Wilderness Systems did a good job designing this boat.
