Went to Lake Alden and had a nice time. Fished from 7:00 to about 11:00.

I caught two bass on a popper and two more on some shiners I brought with me. I met a guy there fishing from a tube. He went all over that place and said he had never even worried about a snake.

We saw 4 or 5 water snakes, but no worries. I also saw two beavers and a ton of beautiful birds.

I'll be back there. Thanks

Glad I could help, and chances are those "beavers" you saw were actually nutria. I've seen lots of those out there. I've taken my float tube out there also and have never worried about the snakes. You didnt catch any crappie?

Now that you mention it, they probably were nutira. I didn't even try for crappie today. I was so busy just getting the feel of the place and looking around.

You should have seen my first cast with my popper. Fog everywhere, water really still and I was almost to the stumy trees across the lake from the launch.

I threw it out over some hydrilla (I think it was that) and got what I call a TV STRIKE. It looked like a fishing show. That thing blew up and looked like he was half out of the water. The bait goes flying up in the air and I dang near flipped the yak!

Of course I missed him

Wish I had been there to see it. That place is so full of fish. In the past I stumbled onto a real goofy way of catching those bass. Take a 6" plastic worm in your favorite color with a 1/16th oz. bullet sinker and just cast it out behind you in the middle of the laker and just drag it around real slow. It's a lazy man's way of fishing but bass just seem to jump all over the worm as it goes by. There are a few humps out in the middle that aren't obvious but hold fish when all that fishy looking cover against the bank doesn't. Great lake to get to know, glad you enjoyed it!

I'll definitely go back. I mean, I only used one topwater popper around the whole lake. I think I'll enjoy it once I get to know it better.

A guy ina tube caught some nice crappie over by the bouys at the dam. He looked like he might be jigging a little worm there.

Took my canoe out this AM to a couple of the local ponds and had a ball. Caught 2 in the first pond and 6 in the second. In the second pond I dropped 2 that would have gone about 4lbs. Real spur of the moment trip. All I took was a baitcasting rig, bag of Mister Twister Phenom worms, barbless hooks, and 1/16th oz bullets. Had both ponds to my self.

Hey,
I am a teacher and have some free time in June/July. Let me know what you might have free and I'll meet you so we can drag em in the boat!
