With Slingshot as my inspiration I ended up pulling the carbs, tearing them down, soaking them, re-assembling them and installing them. To my shock it worked! My moter fire right up and idled perfectly. I rev'd er a little and everything seems fine. Now just need to load test it. I will change the water pump impeller first and get my title work squared away.

Local shops quoted me $350 - $400 to do this job!!!! I was in shock when I heard the cost. Even more so when I found out how simple it really is.

5 gallon can of Carb cleaner is 140.00. I feel richer already as normally I let the carbs soak over night or at least 6 hrs. Most shops do`nt just clean the carb we put a kit and an alcohol resistent float in them while at it and kit price can really vary by manufacture. Example: kits for a early Volvo 4 cylinder, 2 carbs 96.00 each. For a 150 johnson 28.00 each

So did you take them all apart or just take them off the motor and throw them in a tub of carb cleaner?

Chances are if you just took them off and threw them in the tub there wasnt really anythign wrong in the first place.

No kits - just disassembled and soaked. Reassembled and installed. I purchased a gallon of dip for $28

This job IMHO should not cost more than $250. Actual labor time involved for even me as a novice was about an hour and a half. Degree of difficulty is extremelhy low as Yamaha made it very easy to access all areas needed for removal and installation. IF you've ever cleaned and ATV carb these are a breeze to take apart and put back together.

I took my carbs apart, dipped, put them back together and installed. As for nothing being wrong - My motor would not idle before the cleaning. Once I installed the cleaned carbs it fire up almost immediately and idled perfectly. As long as it holds up under load I am good to go.

Is it just me that thinks $250 is hwy robbery to put kits in 3 carbs much less $350 to $400 what he was Quoted ? Id be willing to bet those $28 retail kits actually cost closer to $14.

Kits for my motor are right at $88 for a set for all 3 carbs. I think its fare to pay actual labor time and only installing the kits if needed. Paying for soak time - well I just would not agree with that. A mechanic can be busy on other jobs making money there in the interim. Regardless of whether you think $250 is fare or not - $350 or $400 for my motor is overpriced IMHO
