I do prefer them when fishing plastics. They do seek to be more sensitive to me. Maybe a little better on casting distance, maybe! I keep all my rods in "Rod Sox" and it does help there.

All you really need on a rod is the tip.
that one lets the rod get into its flex..the rest are just friction........

I have a Skeet Reese (the ugly yellow one) with micro guides and absolutely love it, I feel like it is much more sensitive and just as durable than a rod with traditional guides, maybe even more so, due to the fact that they are much harder to break off, or snag on a door frame, car door, or the edge of a rod locker. Yes there are some drawbacks as with anything else, but for me the benefits outweigh the drawbacks thats just my 2cents
