I fished from the marina to Dana Peak and beyond and saw NO grass.

Sure Strike, maybe you or someone else can help me with a question. I'm interested in trying a small tourney, just for the sake of getting better a learning from others (I'm still green myself and have never fished for competition). However, I only have a small boat with a 25hp on it and no livewell. Is a livewell always required? If so, I suppose I could get a portable one until I can have one installed.

Buy a large cooler - the biggest one you feel you can fit into your boat - and an aerator from Academy. The kind that has alligator clips. That will do a decent enough job and will be enough to meet any tourney livewell requirements.

T Bird, the grass is coming up in small pockets and mostly where the water line was when the lake was low. If you were on the lake then and marked the grass beds go to those areas and you will find grass. The best way to find it is with a C-Rig. It's there.

Thanks..But where do you start to find this grass..I mean the obvious is to see the grass..But other than that, its knowing where its located..What area of the lake, rather?

Looking at a Topo of stillhouse..Doesnt show much structure on it I guess grass is the key..Not too many Humps..Looks almost flat and deep with not much structure on the map im looking at.. I guess all those trees also could be key..Boy its getting hot out there, and you dont wanna spend all day trying to find fish in all that heat..Belton has way more structure, but of course its bigger.

GeorgiaBoy71, There is alot of structure on Stillhouse. Keep in mind that structure comes in many different forms and as in any lake, the bass use it to their advantage. However to answer your question, I would start one of two places to find grass. Straight across from the beach area at Dana Peak is a long shallow point. There are pockets of grass on this point from about 7 feet out to 20 feet. This is a good point to drag a C-Rig across and by doing so you will be able to find the grass pockets much faster, along with picking up a few fish. The other area that has grass, but is it much harder to locate, is over by Red Roof at the entrances to the coves, out in about 25 to 30 feet of water,. I will tell you that the fish are acting really strange this year, and can be just about anywhere. No real pattern to speak of. Hope this helps.

To find Red Roof, if you're coming out of Dana Peak take a left as if headed for the dam and once you have made the turn, straight ahead you will see a large ridge line with a house on the end of the ridge that has a red roof. You're there. Good Luck.
