I'll bring along an extra tube and a set of fins for anyone that wants to try their hand at tubing! Build yourself a livewell, and I'll provide the tube and fins.

Anyone interested, respond here. I'm wanting to do this for someone who has never tubed before, but wants to give it a try.

Here's one way to make a livewell. Just use wire-ties to tie a pool noodle to one of these:

Or, see this link, and use a laundry bag and a pool noodel, along with some wire ties.

Well, I'm backtracking a bit. The tournament will be Saturday, October 2nd, but I think, for several logistical reasons, we'll go ahead and set the site. How 'bout a vote:

Lake Mineral Wells
Bryson Lake (near Jacksboro)
Grapevine
Meridian State Park lake
Lake Pat Cleburne
Black Creek Lake (Grasslands)
Lake Fannin
Other

Please give your input within the next 3 days, and I'll post the information and downloadable brochures this weekend. If anyone is interested in being a sponsor or knows a person/company who would, I would love to talk to you.

I vote for a smaller lake, Black Creek sounds good, or any of the other Grassland lakes.

Never fished it, but after seeing the fish Kelly and his significant other caught on Mineral Wells, that's my vote.

Ron,

HCL is out because it would probably involve portaging from one lake to another, looking for the bite. That would put stress on any fish being toted around. If we do go there sometime, we'd have to pick one lake, which is a possibility.

The fact that Kelly managed to catch anything at all tells me the bite is on at MW. laugh

Yada yada yada.... smile

Don't know if you saw my post yesterday, but I voted for MW also. Remember, you have to pay a fee at the Grassland lakes, and I voted against GV because of the slot.

In the end, I deleted my vote and post since that's the day I'm fishing the Media Championship.

Remember, if you do it at MW, the Park Manager is VERY helpful, and interested in you're having a successful tourney. He was a great host last year and came down to visit with us. Made sure the gate was open, and even gave me the gate code in case it wasn't. Be sure and contact him and let him know if that lake gets picked. I think he had the people at the gate reminding people of the "prudent speed limit" on the lake.

Hello fellow tubers. I am just learning this site and was thrilled to find a tubing forum. It is hard to find anyone around my area that fishes from a tube. I am very interested if fishing a tube tournament. And I also like the sound of Mineral Wells Lake. But I am not to shy to recomend Granbury either. But I guess i would sort of have the advantage there since it is the only lake I fish right now. I don't know of any sponsors, but I can ask around. I do know some people that might have a "slight" interest in our sport. I love this site. Hope to hear more about this tournament stuff.

Mercurys- who needs um.

Yep, I see what you mean about the HCL portage problem. But we could certainly have an awesome time in the big pond South of the HWY if we catch them on a good day. I have caught more and bigger bass there than anywhere else. Of course, I havn't had a day like that since spring but I have only fished it twice since then. I'm up for whatever though!

Okay, it's set. The tournament will be at Mineral Wells State Park on Saturday, October 2nd. Fishing has been pretty good there lately, and the 14" minimum should enable us to weigh a lot of fish. Also, the park staff is very cooperative and excited, and is both enabling us to open the gate early and borrow their certified scales. "Kick off" will take place at 6 a.m., with the weigh-in taking place at noon. Entry fee will be $25 and big bass will be $10. Additionally, park entry fees will have to be paid by each angler ($3 per person, I believe). Jerry and I will be working to get some draw prizes donated, and prize money will be awarded based on 1 per every 5 anglers entered, 100% payback (this time--hopefully it will stay that way, if we can get some good sponsorships in the future). I'm going to upload a brochure to the lsfta website tonight and start getting them spread out to stores this week. If anyone can print some up and put them out in your local area, I'd greatly appreciate it. Let's get a big turnout for this one (and big prize money!).

If you have any questions, suggestions, or know anyone who would be willing to sponsor our little event, let me know!

I just uploaded the brochure, a park map, and some site changes. The brochure is on the News page. However, I think my web host must be having issues. I can't view the new pages--just old versions. I'll let everyone know when I can get ahold of him tomorrow and get it fixed. Sorry!
