hello all - I'm located lake fork and Just got the HDS-8 gen 2 /insight and SS bundle installed and working. Installed both ducers on the jackplate on my skeeter. I think i have the downscan dialed in pretty good. in any case it is impressive. problem is, i can't get the sidescan to work worth beans. junk displays. nothing at all like the pics posted out of rayburn so i know it will do it if installed and setup right. there is a siminar here in july and the reps will set up the units in your boat. i will go to that. in the meantime could someone please share some SS starting setups and suggestions for this newbe ? CD

Look at the first 2 pages of this thread for some good setup information.

Anyone had any issues with their sonar sensitivity after the 4.1 update???

After fishing more with the new update it appears to have thrown my sonar a bit out of whack. I am having a difficult time getting it where i want it. The update definately increased sensitivity, ALMOST TO MUCH. not i see every piece of dirt, and microinvertibrate floating in the water column. I recorded all of my settings from before the update and when i set these after update sensitivity was was to high. However any amount i go down i feel like my fish archs also diminish. Instead of a white background i now have a fuzzy blue and pink background because the update increased sensitivity so much. Not sure if i like that part of it yet.

Any tips would be appreciated from anyone who had installed update and feel like their sonar is displaying correctly. i would love to check it against my current settings.

Capt Dale, if your in shallow water the si sucks no matter what. What depth of water are you in? Can you post a pic of the ducer on the jackplate, Maybe be getting blocked.

HTC, I had to take my sens from high 70's (4.0) down to low/mid 60's after I installed the 4.1 update.

Does the Gen-1 have a download that will allow the buttons at bottom of the unit to allow you to go straight to a screen ? Like the 3 button on Hummingbird.

If so how do you make this happen. Just downloaded 4.1 and trying to figure out how to make the new things work.

Yes, just go to the carousel screen and go to the screen that you like by using arrow keys going up and down etc.. (stay on the carousel screen when do this) once you decide which screen you want.. just hold down the soft key for few sec's until image appears in the box.

Hey Grout-Scott It's getting there. I hauled the boat and made sure the SS ducer was level when I was trolling speed. WOW, what a difference. I am truly impressed and thats saying something for me. not quite the quality of the stuff coming out of Rayburn but pretty darn close. Downscan is really impressive and yes this HDS-8 works just fine in shallow water. I don' know how to post pics or would share with you. I have no idea how I got it there but just fiddled with the sens and range once the ducer was level. Kind of like billiards I suspect. If it's not level at slow speed the return does not hit the ducer. CD

Is there anyone on here that wants to do a lowrance guide type trip? I am looking for someone to make sure I mount my transducer correctly and help me get the unit to where it needs to be and give me a good tutorial on the system. Will reimburse for your time

Jsplinter, that only works on the 8 & 10 units. It is a softkey option, the 5 & 7 don't have them. So yes it's also on gen 2's.

Hi all - Well, Concerning my new HDS-8, I think I would have given up had I not seen the pics out of Rayburn. Now I'm a pretty happy camper. Works good lasts long time.... It still has the old 1.8 software so need to consider if I want to do the 4.0 upgrade. Other than that I have only one more issue : This thing really likes the juice. I had it hooked to my motor battery and if the motor is not running it will suck that battery down to where it starts blinking in about 1/2 hr. So I hooked it to one of the bigger trolling motor batts. same thing. So - my question is: WHERE DO YOU RECOMMEND CONNECTING IT TO ??? Thanks for any input. This forum is really great for info. CD

Shouldn't use near that much juice. Are you sure the Batteries a GOOD. I had a battery that would take a charge, but was bad. It would show a charge and take a charge, but would run down very quickly. Might be a good place to start.

You do need to check your batteries, I run a HDS10,8, and the Lss module off my cranking battery all day with no problems,
