Just mount some large treble hooks fore and aft on your kayak and attach a line to a rod in you kayak and have a float tube handy as a life boat, and when the shark hits you can fight him until he discovers you floating in that tube.

I don't think those posts are meant to scare anyone because as anyone who has kept up with the news knows that people do get run over and alligators are wild animals with sharp teeth and an appetite.
It's just to keep people aware, and to stay alert to the dangers, just like when you drive your car, you don't ignore everyone around you because if you do you won't last very long.  If you ignore all the idiots that text-while-driving etc. then you might end up in an earlier grave than you should!  BigDozer66

Why? Why do they now call a life jacket a Personal floatation Device? Because a life jacket may not save your life, and it could just hold the chunks of what's left of you after the gator got through, and that way they can figure out what happened when you don't show up at the dock.
