Kelly: Fly's good! An excellent teacher and an avid fisherman. You two will get along great.

Fly fishing from a tube is A LOT of fun.

Here's a tube tip:
Don't tell the avid fly fishermen, but, if you take a small hook, put it on the end of a fly line, and bait it with maggots or about 1/2 inch of worm (cut a big one in pieces), you can catch a bream on every cast. If you are halfway decent with a fly line (that would be me), you can put the worms right on the spot. Let 'em drop, wait, one, two, set hook. Like clockwork.

From the looks of it, there aren't that many going. If you want to go, be sure and make a comment! We'd love to have you...the more, the merrier!

I'm still going to bring my second tube, so if anyone wants to join and doesn't have a tube, feel free to come on out!

Fly and I were the only 2 that showed up. The fishing wasn't has good as it's been in the past few trips. Water level has dropped about 3 feet and the fish just weren't up in the shallow grass like they have been. I spent quite a bit of time just watching him fly fish and trying to see how it was done before my casting lessons on the bank. It was pretty fun just kicking back watching a pro work that fly and line! Water temps have dropped a bit and it was pretty cool. After about 4 hours in the water we were both ready for dry clothes!

I got 2 bass and lost 2 more that threw the bait on a jump! I think Fly caught 6 on the fly rod. The last 2 fish came at the end of the trip while letting the wind blow us back to the ramp. He was drifting a small fly and caught 2 more bass doing this. I would have never thought he could catch them in the middle of the lake just drifting in open water, but that's exactly what happened.

We ended up the day with a few fly casting lessons and I'm now not as intimidated by the fly rod as I was previously. Fly is a GREAT coach and had me casting in just a few minutes. I'm now going to get my own setup and move into another aspect of fishing! Fly had a pair of Orvis waders he had bought that were a little too big for him. Fit me perfectly and we made a deal for me to buy them off of him, allowing him to upgrade to his size. It worked out great!

Fly is a great guy and I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet him and tube with him. Hopefully next time we'll get a few more folks together. I think the purtis creek trip on the Fly Fishing page may produce more anglers as a few are also taking boats.

Thanks for the great lessons Fly, and those Orvis waders will come in real handy in the next few outtings as the temps start to drop. I can always wear thermals under them if it gets too cold!

Watch it K.D.
Any more compliments and my head won't fit out the door when I leave work today.
Folks, watch out for Kelly D when he gets a flyrod...the boy is a natural. We were on "lesson three" before I knew it and had to backtrack to see what lesson three WAS!!!
Great fishing with you Kelly, looking forward to more. Thanks for showing me Cleburne.
If the rest of you are interested, Cleburne is a neat little park with bathrooms and a little country store. I believe it has a good population of bass and crappie, they were probably just hanging out on underwater humps or other structure since the water was down and a front was coming through.
Great Day. Thanks Kelly.
