What do you guys consider a trophy smallmouth? I know a d.d.largemouth is a benchmark, but what do you consider a benchmark in smallmouth?

I would say it depends where you live and the opportunities you have to catch them. Down here 5+ is a big smallmouth. Up northern states 6 or maybe 7 lbs.

To get on the Lunker pabe in the Bassmaster mag. takes a 6lb. smallmouth. A five pounder is a nice one though.

Here in Oklahoma/Texas a 6+ is a trophy smallie to me. Have caught numerous over 5 on Texoma, just nothing over 6. I Have caught two over 6 in a Nothern California lake and seen one over 7 caught. A 6 pound smallie isn't an easy fish to catch.

My biggest smallie so far is 4lbs and you would have thought I caught a SAL. It definitely is a trophy to me.

Caught a couple around 5 in Texas and I'd say anything over 6 too. I'm waiting to catch one for a replica but haven't gotten there yet.

Have caught several over 5 and have also lost a few over 6. My favorite lake to fish for big smallies is Texoma. I have fished all over this country Erie is awsome if you can avoid the weather and get on the lake. I intentionally target smallies and Texoma has some very specific big smallie areas that never have let me down. It is not easy to hunt trophy smallies anything 5lbs and over. Just got back from weekend at Texoma left my boat at home super full moon and spawn in progress you could smell it. My dog enjoyed swimming for 3 days though wife had fun so did I.

I'm sure there are some just have never used them. Stripers are their money on Texoma. I fish for smallies because I'm addicted to it fly baby fly they won't stay down no matter how much ya want them to. Next time I go I'll post if ya can make it I'll get ya started. Just be kind to me and keep my identy secret don't want to be hunted for causing an addiction.

which guides at Texoma do Smallmouth? I don't know of a good smallie guides on the lake. Reynolds and Fuller are the two guys that come to mind when talking about catching a lot of big brown fish. Neither will guide on Texoma because it would keep them from fishing local events.

Graylen Malear is pretty salty with brown fish especially spring and fall. In four tournaments this spring he weighed in 19 brownies. I am sure he would take you so PM me if interested. It might ruin you.Don

I always said I wouldn't mount a largemouth under 10 and a smallmouth under 6. I caught a 9-11 at Falcon and my dad and uncle looked at me to see if I was gonna take measurements. I immediately put it back in the water. They thought I was crazy unit 15 minutes later and 11 was being measured up. I've caught a 5-7 and a 4-11 smallie in the same day in NM but I have yet to break the 6 lb mark. Got a spot all picked out for the replica
