that's why I was asking about what everyone considered a trophy, my wife caught a 5.3 small mouth and she didn't consider it anything special. we had been catching 5-6 lb largemouths all day and she still thinks it was just another fish.

Im from Minnesota and I always told myself if I mounted a smallie it would have to be one over 6lbs. I can't even tell you how many I have caught over 4lbs up here. I had three 5lbers in one day caught out of my boat and one went 5lbs 15oz by my father in law. 10 minutes later I had one that went 5lbs 7oz. Anything over 4.5lbs is a trophy smallie to me but I won't mount one until I hit that 6lb mark and when I do it will be a replica so I can let that big beauty go. Here are a couple from a trip last fall. Ended up with 12 over 4lbs and 3 over 5lbs.

I have a couple around 5 at Texoma and they have a serious attitude problem. mean fish. never caught one over 6 and that's trophy size I guess. Saw a 6.63 smallie weighed in in front of me and it was a monster!

I caught a donkey of a smallie on Belton a couple of years back. I have LM up to 6 pounds and this smallie was as big if not bigger. No pic cause we were practicing for bass champs and my partner didn't want anyone to see it. I still have a mental pic of that one in my mind.

Love them smallies.

I have caught several over 5 a few in the 6 range and one in the 7 and one in the 8. But they werent down here, on a lake in Michigan that has alot in the 6 and 7 lb range and and all were caught on Jerk baits in about 4 foot of water in September and October. I was also using 8lb test line
