Wow, the number was 940,000 in 1993 and dwindled down to only 105,000 in 2011?? We can fix that if we can get enough contributors.

I was born and grew up on the coast and to me catching hybrids is equivalent to fighting red fish! So its like have an ocean right here at home.

I think there is a great deal of difference between stocking fry (1993) and fingerling (2011). It seems the success rate would increase dramatically for a fingerling. Fry are so small the fingerling eat them.

Thanks for pointing that out, Oldtracker! I missed the "fry" part at the bottom there. I had a long talk to Joe Read, who pioneered the stocking for Twok since 2004. He shared so much info that I cant remember all. But he did mentioned the larger the fingerlings, the better the survival rate, and of course the higher the cost. Also, the biologis at twok usually assists with the releases of the fingerings, usually many trips to the middle deep part of the lake to release them. Through lessons learned, releasing them at the cove or boat ramp, the birds and other predators will gobble them up.

Perch, black bass, etc..... All gobble up the little guys. The TP&W released a cool video about it. They have a funny looking rig that takes the fingerlings out into the middle of the lake to turn them loose.

Count me in on the get-together to talk about more stocking. Sounds like a great idea.

Can I volunteer you to take charge of this Dr. Bean?? grin
Duece texted me this morning and wanting to contribute. Geoff has a wedding this Saturday in OKC and will miss the tourney and our discussion.

I like the idea from the Lewisville guys of:

Silver- 25.00 contribution
Gold-50.00 contribution
Platinum- 100.00 Contribution

If we can consistenly get 50 contritutors per year, giving Platinum. That would be 5K off the bat. We can raise money with other events thru out the year as well. If we can raise between 5k-10K per year, that would stock more hybrids on the home lake. My math tells we can add potentially additional 30,000 to 40,000+ healthy fingerings per year.

For transparency we can assigned at least two or three guru, celeberty TFFers to manage the fund, with the current amount of fund being posted in our signatures, daily.

I am sure guys have better ideas and we can talk abt it more this Saturday.

I am in, platinum! I can sell emptied beer cans if I have too to support my habbit, LOL!! Did that (selling cans) when I was a kid growing up in the ghetto of Pensacola FL, and I would fish at the nearby by marina (Joe Patti) and bring fish home for my family. Good ole days! LOL!

You guys gotta catch the gill netters up the river to Lavon. I'm sure they lurk here for info. This is one reason why I don't fish that stretch

I like the idea of a membership of hybrid guys. I wouldn't mind paying to help. Maybe start a official club?

I don't mind getting the ball rolling at all.

I'll have to find some time in between fishing and playing video games.

Did you guys say that Lewisville has done something similar?

I've got an easy day today so I'll do some research.

isnt it illegal to clean fish on the water? If a warden wanted to check length ...there isnt enough fish left to do so.,

Todd I'm in for the Platinum... Someone's got to feed Ray's habit of catching all the Hybrids... We're gonna need $200 from Ray- as a down payment LOL! I know he reads the posts and he knows I'm kidding. It's a compliment. I think we need a fundraiser calendar of Ray for all his lady friends. That would raise some money! Or we can all take a month. We'll ask Bass pro to carry it. BTW let's not forget asking BP to contribute.... Happy Fishing.

Dude! brother BlueWave Mike, you need to get out more! LOL. We met twice at the LTSA tourney.

FYI. Majority of the people/cultures in the world dont fillet fish, they still scale, gut and eat them whole, almost nothing is wasted! You need to watch Andrew Zimmern more often brother, LOL! Let me culture you a little and may be clear up some long time misconceptions. lol

My family rarely fillet hybrids/striper, you will rarely see me at the cleaning tables at any lakes! When I do keep fish, my wife cleans the fish for a meal at home and the rest of the FRESH fish go to some very close and happy familys/friends. The remains carcasses are placed in the freezer for trash pickup days, or can be buried in the ground which makes great fertilizer. The native americans shared to the newly arrived pilgrims from the foreign land this trick to fertile the soil for the crops and they became friends and celebrated Thanksgiving over that friendship! There are hundred ways to cook fish besides filleting them for a fish fry. And there are hundred of recipes for big fish as well as small fish!

My wife and I shop the Garland Fish (GF) markets often, all of them, cuz my wife is very health conscious and loves seafood and omega 3 products. I consider myself an experienced angler especially with hybrids. I can tell those hybrids/striper they are selling at the GF markets are farm raised, cuz they sell them all year round, they all look a dime a dozen, ie. two dozen fish with the same sizes and built and dont have the "wild" appearances. I am aware a fish farm near Houston (I believe near lake jackson) supplies the hybrids/striper to these markets. Also, it makes zero sense for multi million dollar businesses to gamble over such petti-ness? Or you can PM me the fish store you are suspecting and I will be there asap to check them out so I can gladly report them. I invested so much time and thousands of dollars in this sport, so I have no problem reporting law breakers!!

About the suspected (3) boats you been seeing, what you can do is smile and approach those people and ask to see their catches. They are more likely will show off their catches. But if they dont and start looking suspicious, then report this to the GW. But just making assumptions will more like make you more paranoid, as maybe you already are? The reason I am saying because this happened to me and my buddies several times. One example...years ago when I was bank fisherman, my buddy next to me was keeping yellow bass because the older couple next to us loved them and wanted to keep them. But a boat nearby accused my buddy of keeping undersized and illegally harvesting fish, and he later posted that on several forums. And it got real ugly and racist remarks all over some misunderstanding. When i am 30-50 yrds away, I found it difficult for me to tell the other boater is catching small hybrids or sandies or yellows. So make sure you are 100% certain before calling the GW or posting on the forum!!

Also, I started as a bank fishing when I relocated to DFW in 1995 and I am still a bank fisherman at heart, even though I own a nice boat now, I still go to my favorite bank holes at least once a year during the shad spawn. Watching fish ambush/chasing shad to the shallow shore is exciting to me and the fish come to me instead of me hunting for them like on a boat, lol! I met many of the nicest and skillful anglers from the banks, of many races, who abide the laws just like me. But of course, often when I hear remarks about bank fishermen on TFF, its often negative for some reason....maybe cuz people dont know and they make ASSumptions?? Or maybe its the "us" vs. "them" in our manliness, competitiveness caveman nature? People are funny sometimes! Of course I see a few bank law breakers too just like boaters, but they are the very few.

Another misconception, the peek catching period (of catching limits) from the bank for sandies/hybrids is usually about TWO WEEK window during the shad spawn, out of the entire year! The rest of the year, its mucho slow, I dont bother going !! If you hang around the boat marinas, the cleaning tables where the guides are working, YEAR ROUND, you'll be shocked at the volume of fish they clean! I am still shocked that our relatively "small" lakes can produce that much fish! So the fear of bankers catching and keeping too many makes me chuckle, lol

As for the gill netters, I have no control over them or any other illegal activities, just call the number on the back of my fishing license when I see law breakers. Thanks for bringing that up though. I hear about gill netters almost every year but I yet run into one when I am out there. But just like anything, I have to go by faith. The fact that we're still catching good hybrids on good days, and been doing it for years, tells me that not all hybrids are at the lavon river at the same time? To me the fishing pressure will always be there in the metroplex and may increase because of our population growth?? Last year's hybrid catching for Hubbard was a GREAT year comparing to the previous two years, maybe thank you to the recession and the gas prices?? I did noticed there were fewer boat traffics the past few years.

Wow, this is the record for the longest and wordiest post ever for this homie!!!! LOL!

Peace and happy fishing, guys!
