You don't have to have a CHL to defend your property and you don't have to have a CHL to legally carry a handgun in your vehicle, so long as it is concealed.
I'm not discouraging you from getting a CHL, but it is not necessary in the above situation. 100% correct. So long as the weapon is not in plain view, you are not engaged in criminal activity and are not prohibited from carrying a weapon your well within your right to have a weapon in your vehicle.

I think it's time for me to become an armed citizen.
I thought everyone in Texas was an armed citizen..... Never leave home without it. I've got a few years till I'm old enough to get one.

I think it's time for me to become an armed citizen.
I thought everyone in Texas was an armed citizen..... Never leave home without it. I've got a few years till I'm old enough to get one. Oh I see. Well learn how to be safe with em first. With packin heat comes major responsibility. Glad to see a young person headed in the right direction.

Dang, mama has been reading this and we are getting ready to move to the Fork Area, she said that she wanted 00 buck for the shotgun and she said there will be no Warning Shots Fired.
