louie, he has a good question there. If a cop pulls up on a scene with a perp being held at gunpoint the cop doesn't really know who the good is or who the bad guy is.The LEO is probably going to tell both guys to spread eagle on the ground while he disarms both. Then he will start asking questions. At least that is what happened to me.

No I hear ya...thats what I would do too... Just sounded weird by the way it was asked I guess. To me anyways. Dang internet...

By the time he reloaded here comes another one that did not stop until the carbine went off. At that point he realized there was a guy in the get away car they were trying to get to, ordered him hands up but he was fumbling
In the seat for what he expected was a gun, carbine goes off and takes that one out through the windshield. Another one breaks from the house and he let's another round go but just about takes his arm off and drops across the street. One thief survives best I recall, all others DOA. I hunting buddy of mine was the first officer on the scene. He said it was a mess. The homeowner nauseous and pale as a ghost, he had been robbed three times prior.
He was no billed by the grand jury.
It could have been his wife or children that rolled up on these thieves with a much different results.
Glad it was him and he was a prepared citizen.
This was close to if not more than 20 years ago and that's my recollection of the story.
I think it's time for me to become an armed citizen.

JC, that was close to 25-30 years ago. I remeber that, can't remember the guys name but I think I went to school with him. Back in those days that area was still semi rural before they built all the houses in east Mesquite.

Nope, just interested in what the LEO said when he pulled up. Like Jerry said the LEO would not know who the perp was unless he gave his description over the phone to 911.

If one is holding a gun on someone and the LEO pulls up, he will draw his weapon as well, now I would be on the potential receving end of his drawn weapon. I do not want any itchy fingers holding a weapon at me.

I have my CHL and I would like to know what is the best thing to do if I am in this siutation. I would think that once the LEO sees the situation, I probably would step a few steps back then put my weapon on the ground and back away from it, there is less tension. I am just saying. If I knew the LEO then maybe a different story as he would know me as well.

This situations do not happen often and would be good to be prepared.

Don, my brother was on the phone with dispatch and an officer giving them directions on how to get to the house all the way to the house.
however, upon arrival, he raised his hands, pointed the gun OBVIOUSLY AWAY from the 3 officers and laid it on the hood of his truck, took three or four steps away from the truck(while keeping his hands up) and waited for directions from the officers. They secured the gun, he told them it was chambered and ready, gave him a pat-down and things continued on.
He was curious about the pat-down but I told him that was sop for them.. He said they were very friendly, gave him an "atta boy" and one of them actually asked him if he was familiar with the "castle" law..... (take that as you wish guys...)
By the time it finished there were 5 units at the house... 1-DPS,2-SO's, 3 constables.

Good Job. These situations make you want to go and get your CHL. Congrats on a fantastic handling of the situation.

You don't have to have a CHL to defend your property and you don't have to have a CHL to legally carry a handgun in your vehicle, so long as it is concealed.

I'm not discouraging you from getting a CHL, but it is not necessary in the above situation.

Awesome! I wonder what the conversation between the two of them was like while waiting for the cops to show. "Did you watch American Idol last night?" lol.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm glad he didn't have to fire on the guy. I hate thieves as much as any of you, but killing another person, thief or not is going to be hard on the average person. Congrats to your brother on keeping a cool head and doing everything right. Hopefully the scum goes away for a long time.
