I never see baby gar on the lakes and creeks (N Texas) I fish, only adults.
Never had one in a cast net either when catching shad.
Just curious, where are they? Anyone have experience?
Don't worry about the mule, just load the cart

Up the creeks and buried in vegetation. They also grow fast so the small ones are not small for long.

can't even find many pictures of them as babies. I think they reach a decent length in one year and then start slowing down. Found this pic

I've never caught baby Gar or Carp on rod and reel, but I've caught them countless times when throwing a cast net.
Recent Notables: 40lb Flathead, 30lb Carp, 25lb Buffalo.

I have caught several baby gator gar in the frio river in S. texas, kept one as a pet, he made a cool pet and grew very fast, was the first fish I had that was tough enough to take out and play with. When he outgrew the tank we released him back where he came from.
Every once in a while we would hit the spring time right down at choke canyon and you could castnet baby carp by the hundreds all about 2 inch long, caught several nice cats on them, and even caught about a 20lb carp on a baby carp.
