I use the YakAttack brand and have been very happy with it.

Thanks! This is the magic of TFF, I have about 6 pieces of bamboo drying from last year -- never occurred to me to use them (normally I make cane poles out of them) as a stay pole.

I just upgraded from an Ocean Kayak to a Coosa!

The one I got from the GTG works great! I used it for the first time today up in the creek. I was able to ease it down outside a crappie hole in the middle of the creek about 9 ft deep and pull them without the yak moving around. Quicker than the anchor when jumping around from spot to spot. I use the anchor off the back pulled tight and the pole when I was trying for some cats. In the light wind it kept me pretty well, very little drifting side to side. It will be going out more often.

I have never used an anchor pole and was wondering about the potential safety hazards associated with them. There have been several discussions regarding the hazards associated with "drop anchors", but I don't recall anything on the use of poles.

Maybe its not as much of an issue due to the locations where you would use the device. Powerboats/PWC probably arent the threat they would be in locations where you would use a traditional anchor, but I would think that wind/waves/being pulled by that monster fish would still be possibilities. I would think it is more difficult to pull up a 9 or 10 foot pole from the scupper hole in your yak than it would be to disconnect an anchor line in a time of trouble.

Just wondering and I would love some insight/experiences from guys who have used a stakeout pole.

That is why I use the fiberglass and I never put them down through a scupper hole so the flex keeps it safe.

Thanks for the info ... my anchor experience yesterday afternoon had me thinking about adding a pole to my arsenel. I was fishing a local pond with a heavy grass bottom and using the anchor to try and battle the winds. The little 1 1/2 pound anchor became 10-20 pound huge ball of grass/mud/muck. So heavy that the anchor itself actually broke off at the attachment point as I was pulling it in one time. Thinking a pole would be a much better alternative in these conditions.

Great picture Bert:-)
Like Bert I build my own.

I do use my scuppers in the OK Big Game but when in the Bumble Bee I use my trolley.
Going on 5 years now and absolutely no problems with my $5.00 stake out pole.

Bert, what diameter are you using on those fence posts?

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack
