Looking at the small yaks that would be easy to toss in the bed of the truck and fish for a while. I do not carry a lot of stuff - 2 rods (maybe) and some tackle. I know some folks love their Mini X and also hear great things about Ocean Kayak brand so was wondering about these 2. Thoughts?

The Mini X seems like a better fishing platform. Comes with 4 flush rod holders and also has a hatch.

Might check out a Tarpon 100 also if you are only interested in short kayaks.

My fianc has the mini-x and loves it. She just got it for paddling, but the storage is nice, and has four rod holders. I am going to install a fish finder so I can take it sometimes. I have the bigger x factor, and it is very stable. The mini-x is actually slightly wider than the x factor. I believe ocean kayaks are generally more narrower and geared toward speed and maneuverability. If you can try and paddle both and see what you like best.

I have a Mini X and it is a great yak. Shorter yaks do not track as well as longer ones, but the Mini X is very stable. It is also easy to haul around in the back of a small pick up.

I have both of those, bought them for the kids. I've only paddled the mini x once and never been in the frenzy. The kids seem to prefer the frenzy though. The frenzy doesn't have any rod holders or hatches, don't know if newer ones have anything like that. I figure the mini x would be my choice for small creeks, although I haven't had any trouble creek fishing in my Pescador yet.

The Frenzy is a cool kayak for sure. I think it is 2 inches narrower than the Mini X but still really stable. It would be my choice for playing around but for fishing I'd go MiniX of the two.

1st yak i ever bought 5 years ago was a mini x. and i still have it. also bought a pescador last year. i can throw the minix in back of suv and be gone in a few minutes. take it to lakes and rivers. never came close to tipping over. not fast tho. i take it on places where i dont have to paddle more than a mile. highly recommend to beginners because of stability. will never sell mine. gluck

I would second the notion of adding the Tarpon 100 to you list for consideration. I paddled one at the Grapevine GTG last weekend and even paddling in that crazy wind it tracked straight as an arrow and had considerable speed. The Tarpon also has the slidetrax system so you can rig and unrighteousness it for fishing in just a couple of minutes if the boat is going to be used for recreational paddling in addition to fishing.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Will look into the Tarpon 100 also. I am looking for a first yak that I can easily throw in the truck (short F150 bed). Will upgrade to longer yak in future - but for now looking for something to get me on the water easily. I see there is a Mini X for sale on here so will look into that.
I don't plan to sell whatever I get when I do "upgrade" so that is one reason I was looking at the Mini X - don't see many bad things said about them. Thanks!

I use to own a Mini X. I moved up to a Ride 135. I loved the Mini X. It was much lighter and very easy to get into my truck. Great for sitting down and fishing as well as fishing small water.
It doesn't track as well, but that is to be expected with a smaller boat. I did hear some people say you could stand in it, but I didn't find that to be the case. Not nearly as stable as the Ride 135. All in all a great boat. $350 is a good price too.

I've got a little 10 foot frenzy; good stable craft; i've been all over the lighthouse, B&R flats, south bay, etc. in it; no problems; I bought a prowler which handles a little better but i gave $7 bills for the prowler and got the frenzy for less than 3; there's not 4 bills difference-p-

If convenient, why don't you drop by our store for a totally no-pressure visit and we will let you touch, feel, and even sit in both the Malibu Mini-X (five colors in currently in stock) and Wildy Tarpon 100 (currently one in stock in Mango). You might also want to check out our Wildy Ride 115's and Hobie Quest 11's.

By far the Mini-X. Best yak in that size for fishing, you won't be sorry you did.
