Mine are similar to that. But I used the large spring clips instead of the u-bolts.

Captain larry has these on his pontoon boat, you can get the material for about $10/each. Just have to drill holes in your rails.

I prefer BeeReady but I have more to do than build rod holders. I have been using them for ten years with no complaints and never had a failure, Lifetime Guarantee. I'm not particular the finest will do nicely.
