I haul a Hobie Outback on top of my 99 civic. It is faster than most yaks (Revo edges it) but I can stand and fish in the Outback with ease...even in high winds or wake areas. The Hobie Outback is a fishing machine and you can mod the hell out of those things.

When choosing your fishing kayak, there are many factors to take into consideration. You should identify what fish species you will target and how far you will have to paddle to get to the location where you plan to fish. If you have to paddle long distances to your fishing locations, you would be better off with a longer kayak.

This is one of the main reasons I am looking into a kayak..I have a civic aswell and would like to be able to get away from shore once in awhile. What rack are you using? I have a 2006 myself.

I've been kayaking for several years now and just went to a 240 paddle and have noticed a BIG difference. No more hitting the side of my kayak.

Paddle blade sizes and shapes are worth taking into consideration as well. The bigger the blade, the more powerful the paddle is per stroke AND the more energy it requires per stroke. Many kayak anglers prefer large to medium blades while long distance paddlers prefer small blades. When starting and stopping, punching though current or waves and paddling into the wind many kayakers prefer a larger blade. Smaller bladed paddles don't get up to speed as quickly but once there they require less energy to maintain your speed over a long haul.
Just a few more things to chew on......

As I experienced, Going to your local kayak fishing retailer is probably the most important thing you can do. Your local dealer will be able to help you understand the options available and you can perform any service or warranty work if necessary.
