Abu Garcia Black max is pretty decent combo for under 100. dont know many others other than that. I want to say Abu also has the Orra combo for 100 bucks (spinning).

You could get a H20 Mettle and a $50 rod for right at $100.

You could get a H20 Mettle and a $50 rod for right at $100. +1. And they put them on sale from time to time for $25. I also have a Bass Pro Tournament Special combo that I got for $79 and I'm suprised how much I like it. 7ft Med/Hvy rod, 8 bb if I'm not mistaken. Good combo for the price IMO.

I was in Cabela's last weekend and they had the Quantum Kinetic PT for 59.99. You can get a decent rod for the remaining $40, and I think that would be hard to beat for that price point.

And there are plenty of really nice spinning combos you can get for $100 and even quite a bit less than that. I found a Mitchell 308 on clearance at Wallyworld in Houston last week for $17. That gives you a ton of room for a nice rod and stay under $100.

Will handle anything in Texas with the right line. I concur on the rod but I use a Daiwa Regal Plus BRI that you can find on line for about 55$ in the 4000. It will hold 220 yards of 65lb braid and you can put up 33lbs of drag to turn the big girls and keep them out of the timber. The bait clicker makes it nice so you have the option when anchored.

The best thing to do is buy a rod and reel separately and that way you customize it to the way you fish

Good -Cheap all around combo... i like what deer strangler said for big cats and the salt. for everyday fishing in fresh you might look at: (White) ugly stick med heavy cat rod from Walmart rated for up to 30# line. $35  Mitchell 308Xe spinning reel (black n silver) in color from Walmart or Academy $45  Big game 15# mono. $8  Total:$90-$100

i have a walmart daiwa spinning combo i like alot i think it was about 80 bucks. Also they sell the abu garcia promax combo for 99 and so far i love it for a cheaper combo
