I ended up finding Jerdelle yesterday and decided to fish it even though water was very high. The walking trek wasnt too bad since it wasnt too far from the parking lot , I just paddled along side the road till I got to the creek, haha.
I spent most of my time taking pictures due to the fact that scenery in the creek was just beautiful and also for landmarks for future reference once the creek gets lower. I managed to get to the head waters and caught a few big bluegills and two crappie. Fished some more going down stream and managed a few catfish and one more crappie. Since i'm new to this creek, it was more of a learning/trial and error thing to see where all the holes and structure is.
All in all it was a good trip, I will probably head back in a couple of weeks and try my luck again. I haven't been to Yegua creek yet, so ill probably head up there next go around. Oh, and thanks HL&S, your videos and info about lake Somerville/creeks have helped me a lot since I'm fairly new to kayaking. Thank you, sir. Keep up the good work!

Don't forget about Birch creek either.. it can be a really good paddle and I can usually catch fish up there too and I often see the eagle on that side of the lake.. I'm going to work all day Monday otherwise I'd join up with jsinn01 on the Jerdelle.. The lake is at 243.02 @ 9:40pm 1apr2012 and that is 5 feet above normal pool level. This might get floodugly if it rains again.. but it's still way better then drought

I guess it's over in the creeks for the year.. not one report for a week or so but the lake is high.. they are releasing enough water to keep the lake from going much higher but we did get some pretty good showers Tuesday...

HLS, the fish that I caught from the lake last Sat had 6 females with eggs. Odd brown/red color. I'm guessing they are done with the spawn by now.
Nearly all the fish caught had shad. Ghost minnows, or nothing in their bellies.

Doug, I'm sure the whitebass have left the creeks for the year, last three trips I zeroed! Crappie, blackbass and catfish are all that remain... I will probably wait until the water goes down a couple of feet before I head up another Somerville creek.. I can't catch anything when it's flooded like it is now..

WB seems to leave the state park also. I caught my limit last Friday. I went back on Sunday (4/8) I got nothing. I guess the season is over for WB... at least from bank fishing.
There may be some fish scatter around in the morning though.

Will be hitting it hard soon. Vacation next week. Traditional good time for the lake fishing. Water levels are diminishing....finally. Maybe they will close or slowly release the gates by the wkend or Monday. (They can save some for late August to help pay for covered parking at their new lake office. They'll publically say they will close it then allow another week for more $$$). Sandra and I went out for about 3 hrs. this past Sat. Only 5 fish. The wkend of the "fish fry" we cleaned up. Hard to "pattern" the fish right now. They are in areas where they are suppossed to be in now but not in good numbers, and I've found them in other unconventional spots while just out looking for humps and ledges. I'm on a quest my next trip to find the 4 ft. stump out near the Welsh shoal. It is on the lake side of where the buoys used to be. The buoys are gone now. Don't know where a lot of buoys disappeared too.

Also, some friends caught 65 at BC at the point below the new restroom last week, during mid week. Ghost minnows. Also, the drum are picking up. Several buddies catching them on crawfish. A recent pic of "half" there catch is what he told me- Great Noodling areas at the Yegua bulheads LOL (just me trying to get a throwline free (the day of "the fish fry")- Water was up high at Big Creek but didn't stop a fisherman from wading out onto the dock-
