Steve, If you have wader bring it.Go down where the mouth of the river ,cast up and let it flow down and jig. When the sun come up is the best time.Use a bopper with any type of zoom shiny shad. You can get some at academy.Good luck to ya.

I am not sure what the condition is like now... you can check out the place and see what's it like... if too many people fishing and current running strong... i would rather take him to 78 cove by the bridge before Little Ridge Park for crappie fishing.. Just my 2cents. sometimes, it's a dog fight down there like 12bang3 pointed out. Just not worth to take 8 years old no matter how good fishing is down there..

Total agreement Steve. It's a cool place to show a kid and all, but fishing it is another matter. I think both of you would be very frustrated. Plus it is a rather dangerous place for a little fella. If you had to go, I'd say go after dark, even very early in the morning before sunup. Not much off a crowd then.

ok, good tips. We were hoping to get into some fish and that seemed like the place to be. I have waders, but can't go anywhere that he would need to wade.

Not sure i know of the 78 cove or little ridge park, but he would enjoy crappie fishing if i could get on some, just need to bring different gear.

if u wanna take a kid fishing for sandies or hybirds.... hit the main lake. U have the entire bank to your self and possibly more fish to catch than the dam and local creeks with 2 million people casting left and right.

If i knew where I could take him on the main lake I would Wilson, but I only get to take him fishing every now and then and only have him from 430-830 wednesday night this week. I don't want to spend too much time trying to find a good spot. This week was short notice, I can scout out more next time i take him. If you want to PM me a spot that would be good I would be in your debt.

Steve you can go to lavonia park and fish all up and down the banks and catch some sandies. Look it up on google and see how to get to the park. There are always fish there this time of the year. thumb Or you can go down to hwy 78 and fish the low water dam but on the weekends it gets crowded. Good luck thumb
