So what are the tricks to fishing this damn? Compared to the creek what do I need to do different?
Look up " Aquaponics! The self sustained revolution." on Face Book and like the page to learn how to use fish to grow anything at 4 times the rate with 90% less water than normal agriculture while eliminating all chemicals and producing fertilizer for in ground plants.

I too am clueless to the ways of the dam. I've fished there a couple of times. Once when they opened a gate even. Something snapped my line real good (a good reminder to set the drag properly). I was using a clear-ish 4-5" swim bait. While there I witnessed one fella walk down the creek a bit, and come back in 45 minutes with a load, including a big fishy.
Other times, all I caught were some tasty waves.
Anyway, I've not used live bait out there yet. So... I'm peeking at this thread for info on how to fish it.

i've been waiting for this long time!!! depends on which part of dam area you are fishing. if you are fishing the down the spill way in the creek, your gear should be fine. But, if you gonna fish the pool below the dam, i've seen many people using surf rod with bobber(4oz). or a good 7 ft with long casting capability. Come out and see how people are doing it. you are not gonna be ready no matter how much information you get from this thread unless you are very experience fishman. U must see it to understand and what to prepare. Creek fishing is nice, easy, and very relaxing... Below dam, it's a dog fight when they are pumping the water!

Noah's first hybrid. He caught it on a hybrid doughball he whipped up. Kid is always making bait. Lavon Dam 4/2010. He was 9.  Most of the dirt in this pic will be underwater with 4 gates open. But fairly good pic of pier setup. Need bigger than 7' rod though. Unless your fishing for crappie.

How do you get to the dam and where do you park? I googled and saw a big pavement next to the dam...do you park at the Park or drive close to the dam and park at that pavement?

If you take 78n keep going til you pass wal-mart on your left .When you come around to the curve(right) there should be a sign on CORP OF ENGINEER take a left go all way down til you come to a split.Hang a turn right keep going til you see a road that would lead you down, its an access road.That's where all the people park..Good luck
