Shoot man, I even haggle at retail stores, just ask for the manager and say this is similar but not exactly what you were looking for and BAM! they usually give me 10% on the spot. At pawn shops offer 50% of what they are asking and they'll still make 25% profit minimum.

You haven't done anything wrong, bud! It is not the buyer's responsibility to know whether or not items in pawn shops are stolen or not. I had several rods stolen from me a few years back and yes, they probably were taken to a pawn shop. It's just the way it is.

You guys are ridiculous. It's one thing if he bought em on craigslist for $40 and another to buy it from a pawn shop. I have no problem buying from pawn shops. A deal is a deal. Even if it happened to be stolen, there is no way for an original owner to get the items back if they wanted. That's an awesome deal. I never find that kinda stuff. Last time I went in to one, they had abu Garcia 5500c3s which is what I was looking for. They wanted $100 each. 20 or so more than retail. I told em they were ridiculous, thrt weren't even close, and left.

I'd have bought all 4 whether I had a use for them or not. Last fall I bought a Loomis GLX spinning rod (SJR782) with a Daiwa Fuego from a local pawn shop for something like $70. Was it hot? Maybe, who is to say. I sold the rod and essentially got paid to keep the reel in the end. If it was hot, I feel for the owner but I couldnt pass the deal up. If I didnt buy it, the very next person that knew what they were looking at would have. Happens every day

Have also seen St Croix rods at garage sales for $10 a piece, left behind in a divorce, death or what have you. Just because it was there and cheap doesnt necessarily mean it was stolen. The possibility is definitely there though.

Great find buddy!

It's on the pawn shop to prove they aren't stolen, not you. Those shops can get in serious trouble if they are buying stolen goods.

Nice find..... I was in one here one time and saw a Shimano Calais paired with a Falcon Cara T7 when they first came out. Price tag said 50, I asked if he would take 40 and he said yes. LOL it was about a 700.00 setup in mint condish!!! I still go into pawn shops every once in a while.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better...Great find and not judging...if you didn't buy it, the next one would. Just sad that it is likely hot....Otherwise, they would sell it here for quite a bit more.

+1 Guys that love to fish and have equipment like that will find something else to pawn.

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum.

Scenerio 1
So he was supposed to walk in, notice it was a good deal, then walk about because it "might" be stolen. The next guy walks in and thinks the same and doesn't buy it because it "might" be stolen. Third guy walks in and doesn't buy because it "might" be stolen. In the end, some broke college kid pawned it needing some money for beer money so he pawns his rod & reel. Now the pawn shop is out of business because everyone thinks all their stuff "might" be stolen.

Scenario 2
He walked out because it "might" be stolen and as he's walking out he holds the door open for the next customer (because he's a good guy, remember?). Then that customers walks over and buys the rod & reel. He misses out a good deal because it "might" be stolen.
