my rpms are around 4200 at wide open throttle. and no i am not trimming up when i get on plane. sorry guys this is my first boat i did not know that. i have driven several boats before but nobody has ever told me that. should my rpms be more than 4200? You just need to learn to trim the engine properly as your speed increases. All bass boats will only do about that many rpms with the motor all the way down. Try and get someone to take you for a ride in your boat and teach you how to drive it. +1. My boat will barely do 4000 rpm with no trim. I trim up to around 52-5400 on my motor. 5500 is WOT. I can trim up to around 6000 before my prop starts to blow out.
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

My boat weighs in at about 1350 lbs dry. I get about 40mph gps with 1 person and gear. I just bought my first bass boat about 2 weeks ago and once in a while I will be at full throttle and i will be going only about 10 mph. But I have narrowed it down to motor not getting enough fuel. So I just choke the motor and recrank it and it will be running good again. Maybe you just need a tune up or maybe your just not trimming the motor up. GoodLuck hope you figure out the problem!
Its simple. Just do it.

Get someone to teach you how to drive your boat, not only will the speed increase but as you get it going faster you need to know how to do alot of things, like crossing wakes, how to stop a boat, how to turn one properly etc.
They can be fun, but dangerous if you don't now how to drive one.
Having someone that knows how to drive a boat teach you some pointers on the water will greatly increase your enjoyment of the boat, and make you a safer boat operator.

One last check point. If you have a hot foot, sometimes the adjustment of them allows the throttle cable to not open up all the way. I had a Champion with a 175 Mercury, best from dealer was 62. But RPM's were low and i had already checked Jack Plate and Prop was correct. Then we checked the Hot Foot throttle travel by pulling the motor Cowling and pressing the hot foot all the way down. Carbs werent opening all the way and i had an inch and a half of throttle left. Adjusted it, and BINGO, 71 MPH by GPS.
Give it a shot!
