Yeah, I just put the 798ci on my Pescador, and that thing is awesome. It gave me great pictures of the structure I was paddling near, made it really easy to find bridge pilings lol. I didn't catch any more fish though than I caught with my Cuda 300. I hardly even saw any fish, joe pool skunked me again.

Like mentioned before, if you can wait until April 14 you'll have a tone of kayaks to paddle. in this case patients is a virtue.

Hey, when you get your kayak, I'd love to go out with you and get some pointers. I was at britton park the other day and really haven't fished there much before. Place was kind of barren. I was really more interested in playing with my fish finder than finding fish though smile

Go to cabellas and ask for their 12v rechargablr battery for running a fish finder. It's about 5 lbs and its $25 for just the battery and 35 with a charger. Will last all day before needing a charge. Also don't forget to add the fuse your finder calls out for or you will void warranty.

I was in Academy yesterday and noticed they had a large stock of kayaks, and they had two new sit on top Heritage Anlger yaks, an Angler 10 and an Angler 12 fully decked out with rod holders and paddle holder and locking front hatches.

They are basically the Heritage Redfish 10 and 12.

I had a Redfish 10 that I really liked and I regretably had to sell, but I loved the flat floor on that kayak.

They are stable and like I said have the flat floor, but have a much, much nicer lock down front hatch lid.

I'm tempted to buy that Angler 12 for $449 and the 10 is under $400, and both have the same features.

the redfish 12 used to be a $750 kayak before they were sold by academy. Im thinking there must be some differences from the academy ones and the ones that used to be sold at kayak shops. Ill have to take a look at the academy one and see. I have a redfish 12 I bought a couple years ago from Heart of Texas Kayaks and its a great boat.

They are nice boats, and I had the Redfish 10 and I actually was a little too big for it being 6' and 236 at the time but it handled the weight plus what I loaded into it and was a nice stable platform to fish out of and it was fast enough for me to not notice.

I really like the double latch lids that come on the Angler models and they had them in the sand color which I like.

Someone mentioned something about cracks problems which I have not heard, but as heavy and thick as the plastic was on the Redfish I don't see how that would have been an issue unless you dropped it while in freezing weather.

If I have cash on hand for a kayak, I surely would not buy new unless its something I have tried and really like. I'm not saying the Academy kayaks are junk, in fact I own a Pescador, but instead, you can find a used Ultimate,Search, Ride, Tarpon, etc that is in good shape with accessories for less money than new

TKF is the place to look for used. I agree that is the route I'd go if 750 was my budget. On 3 different occasions i have seen an OK Trident 13 for that or less and they are excellent boats.

Hobie Outbacks & Revolutions are typically in the $1,500-$1,600, give or take depending on accessories. Hobies really hold their value well.

I agree that you can find some good used deals, but there is still a chance you take that there could be some hidden problem, such as a small leak or crack.

Buying one from Academy you save some money that you can then spend on accessories etc. but the big difference is Academy has a return policy that is pretty good.

You won't get that buying used so that's some food for thought.

I would say holding out for a quality used kayak would be wise if your looking for a hobie or just have your heart set on a higher end name brand kayak, but you still have to check it over closely and you are buying as is.
