I catch them from time to time bass fishing, and I thought they got bream sized normally?

Someone told me recently that they were alot smaller??

They are some aggresive lil SOB's i caught one the other day on a 5.5" swim bait !!!!

I catch one or two a year in that bayou, caught one last yeah on a 1/2 oz buzzbait, it had the trailer worm in his mouth and i had to shake him off of it, he wouldn't let it go lol

I catch them all the time in Caddo on a 10 1/2inch worm.

Most of the Rock bass that we have caught were in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri in the mountainous areas and look a lot different. They are marked up more like a Crappie in color. There are several different subspecies which some are called the goggle-eye and such. Here is a picture of more of the type we caught that we referred to as Rock Bass.

Yep, thats a Warmouth. We have a lot of Rock Bass in Washington State, at least on the West side of the state. State record is a little over a pound. Caught one just shy of a pound a few years ago on a T-rigged U-Tail worm. I used to put on a tournament on a small local lake specifically for Rock Bass. Fun stuff with worms and jigs under floats.

By the way, thats how I got my name, Rockjiggr, using jigs for Rock Bass.

Catch big ones on caddo

that's a cool looking little fish, you can def see the crappie/bass mixture in it. Ours look like a bream/bass mixture.

I don't know if we have breeding populations or if it is a somewhat common happening of either a little male bass spawning on a brim bed or the other way around.

Or just a bream bed really close to a bass bed produces a few of these or what.

But they are neat.

They make great aquarium fish, i had a little rock bass in an aquarium as a kid, it cleared out the whole tank , oscars,dempsey's knifes you name it, it cleared them all out

I caught one during a tournament 2 summers ago, hit a shakey head. He was a nice one.

Caught some on jumbo grasshoppers as a kid that would legitimately weigh a pound. pound

I have caught several in the Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana that would weigh 1 - 1.5 lbs. They are great eating.....(oh, and we call them "Goggle-eye")
