Goofball confession time on myself: I bought those clips that stabilize the steering rods while trailering and yep; launched my boat and forgot to take them off. I nearly backed into the marina slips behind me cause I couldn't turn. Hopefully, that lesson will be enough to add it to my mental pre-launch check list!

And it begins. I was at Ray Hubbard Sunday at Chandlers. As I was pulling the boat out a big ski boat was backing in. I pulled my boat around in front of the marina and there is a little down grade hill that slopes towards the water. As I'm wiping my boat down this same ski boat pulls next to me. As I'm wiping the boat down a guy maybe 20yrs old starts to unhook the boat from the truck. I'm thinking "I'm hoping he chalked the tires". I walk behind MY BOAT to look and nope, no chalk. I start to say "NO" and it was to late. That boat started to roll down hill and headed towards a roll of cars. I get on the front of the trailer with this guy and we're trying to stop it. A couple of other guys(bass fishermen) run over and get behind the boat and we stopped it about 2' from totaling these cars. As were holding the boat I yell at him to get the chalks out of the back of my pickup. He finds some rocks next to the boat and chalks his boat. Me and the other two guys just look at each other then we look at him and told him to always chalk your tires. I cleaned my boat went home and took pain killers for my back.... Along with some of these other posts..

Don't it make you feel stupid when you do it? My wife doesn't like to back the truck and trailer in so driving the boat off and on the trailer is her job. Every time I see her get out of the drivers seat and bend over the motor I get a chuckle and boy do my ears burn.

It must have been the weekend for ramp mishaps, because they started Friday at lunch. I was on Lake Fork eating lunch at the Minnow Bucket. I had my boat tied to the dock and after I got through with lunch, I headed back down to go out for the afternoon. As I am walking down to the pier, I look over and see this newer model Ranger sitting on the boat ramp a good 3ft from the water and no truck or trailer in sight. It is sitting flat down on the ramp, the 150 is up and 3ft from the water. There were 6 guys who put pipe under it and rolled it back to the water. There was a 6ft stripe of Fiberglass left on the rough surface of the boat ramp. I don't know if it was dumped of the trailer backing down or the throttle stuck headed into the ramp. Never found out.

I have had many encounters at the ramp for people being pissed off at me for not turning my lights off while backing a boat down or pulling one up from the water on a ramp.
For some reason...Ford thought it would be cute to install day time running lights on my vehicle that can not be disabled. Yes...you read that correct...they can not be disabled minus pulling a fuse or disconnecting them. I am sure one of the know it alls around here has bumped into me on the ramp and thought they was going to show me different and walked away scratching their head. Blame it on Ford!! I do!
Oh...and 1,000,000 apologies ahead of time to those that fish Media Fork or Media North East Teams. Also, for anybody that gets their panties in a bunch this coming Sunday at Dodge Megabass on Fork. I will be in a White F-150 pulling a Blue ZX225...just smile and wave and know that if I could...I would turn them off.
I guess I could turn the trucks ignition off and use neutral for backing...I just don't want to do my best impression of Cody and sink my truck!!

I saw a couple of guys who had one or two too many load an old run about. One guy backed in way too far, the other drove the boat right over the trailer, thru the double doors and wedged the bow of the boat in the back of a junky old van. You should have heard the cuss words fly.
Another time saw a guy back his trailer under the dock beside the ramp, jammed it in there good, could not pull forward and tied up the ramp until someone finally pulled him and his trailer out.
Was coming back to a ramp in NY, the kid who ran the ramp said I would have to wait before pulling out. I asked why, he pointed down in the water below my boat and said look. Could see a white glow in the water. Asked what it was and he pointed at a man and his boy, and said their jeep Cherokee. I asked the man what happened, he said his mother in law was not going to be happy, it was not his truck. Waited for the tow driver, he made the man dive in and hook it up. Polled it out, looked just like they do on TV when the open the doors, water pouring out.
You see some great stuff.

I have to admit I unhooked my boat in my driveway last year after a looong day on the water and forgot the chalks...... I guess I was just worn out from the heat that day, but it drug me and my little flip flops all the way down the driveway and into the neighbors yard (luckily they don't have a fence). I was using those flip flops as concrete water ski's. My neighbor was sitting his back porch bbq'ing. When he finally stopped laughing he helped me line it up so I could back the truck back down the driveway and pull it forward. LOL He still makes fun of me when I see him, hahaha. It happens..... This I would have loved to see! Concrete water skiing!

I have used them one time and of course left them for my wife when I launched at Falcon, luckily she was smarter than me and took them off.

How about a boat that comes in and asks how do I get this trailer back on the truck?

As gramps says, a divorce attorney can make a good living setting up shop at a boat ramp.

Tom, You missed it after that cigarette boat finally got off the trailer and was backing up, I think forgot he was in reverse and dang near backed over one of the BLT anglers in a skeeter coming out. By the time he realized it or the guy blew his horn it was too close, the cigarette boat slammed it in forward with both out drives trimmed up and about swamped the guy in the skeeter. I think its that time of season already!! Glad all of you got to watch me get soaked from head to toe. I am just glad i don't have a 40' cigarette boat stuck half way threw my Skeeter.

I was at the 66 ramp at hubbard a little over year ago and there was a young couple with an old ski boat that were putting in right after I'd just put mine back on the trailer. He came over and talked to me for a minute and said that he was engaged to the lady and it was her dad's boat. I guess he unhooked it totally before going down the ramp and he hit the brakes pretty hard right at the bottom of the ramp and the boat slid off just barely late enough to slide off the trailer and land in the water. I don't know if the motor or hull hit the concrete in the water or not, but it was a pretty close call. Never seen one timed out just "perfect" like that. Quickest launch I've ever seen. Wouldn't have been a fun conversation with the future father-in-law if he'd hit the brake 5 feet earlier.

I was at squaw creek a few months ago and had a bad boat ramp experience. And I'm sure that those watching me had quite a tale to tell. But, I actually could have used a little help, but none offered. Don't assume someone doesn't know what they are doing. They may have a problem, and could use some help.
