The skimmer and puck have the same internal parts. It is just as good as the puck mounted inside your hull. NOT to worry.

There is no adjustment to a "stuck to the hull" shoot-through transducer. Where you stick it down is what you get, until such time you chisel it out. Most any like-kind transom-mounted designed "ergonomic" tranducer will give the same results as as a "flat-sided puck" as they are simply different shapes, one moreso to appease the discriminating "shoot-through" aficinado. The transducer; however, is designed to perform at its optimum when making direct unobstructed contact with the water. And it will do just that when installed correctly. The boat hull may contain voids, unwetted glass, uneven layup and, of course is an entirley different density than water and may even resonate out of time (very common with an aluminum hulls too),which is most certain to diminish the electronic transducer sounding quality. The transducer must hear the return "tempo" at the same rate as it emitted and can easily create confusion which also diminishes an effective sounding. Many dealers will only install a transducer as a "shoot-through" to avoid potential liabilty for installation damages.

Besides the simulator Is there a way to view your saved structure scan sonar log on the hds unit with out having the structure scan unit hooked up. I have the unit in hooked up in the house and am only able to "view sonar log" in the sonar screen. I have viewed the side/down scan before in the boat, but that was with the structure scan hooked up. Kinda disapointing if the thing won't let me do this

Champ, I'm pretty sure you can view recorded info without having the lss on. It's been a while since I have used my graphs but while playing them back there is a option on one of the menus that says something to the extent of viewing "primary" (that is the 2d sonar) if you can find that menu change the viewing "primary" to downscan or side image. Sorry I don't remember the exact steps but I know I have done it before.


Or you could go to the Lowrance web site and download "sonar viewer 2.1" then play the cards back on your computer. It lets you view all 3 screens at the same time & on a bigger screen.

Did the unit come with a transducer? If not, then was the one you bought also capable of temp readings, not all will read temps.

The flashing speed, not sure about, mine will do that intermittently, but always returns back to normal...

I am having issues with gps data source settings.
What should the data source settings be on each of my HDS units to maintain use of each units internal antenna seperately?
Units are linked by ethernet through the LSS-1 unit.

Champ, I'm not postivie because it's been a while since I've used my boat but I think it's "local". Pretty sure "global" puts it into shared antenna use. But I do know a positive way for you to know. See what it is currently on and change it.

Will the gen 1 HDS5x work with a LSS2? And what cable do I need to get the HDS5 to work with the universal sonar on Minn kota terrova? I only saw the HDS5 listed not the X model

the hds 5x will work on the lss-2 or lss-1 (if you can find one.)

When I get my new lowrance unit will I be able to plug in the chip with my waypoints I have been using in my humminbird and see them or do I need to convert them some how

Jsplinter, you will need to convert them with a program called gps babel or something to that extent. It's on the Lowrance page over on BBC, one of the sticky topics on the top of the page. Ah heck I'll just copy & paste for you.

How to convert Humminbird Waypoints and Trails to Lowrance..
Using GPS Babel to convert Humminbird waypoints to Lowrance format

First download your waypoints from your Humminbird locator onto an Sd card. Note that Humminbird uses different files for waypoints and routes (.hwr) and tracks (.ht) You can convert both. Lowrance uses a common .usr file for waypoints, routes, and tracks.

Next download a free conversion program called GPSBabel (GPSBabel Download).

Humminbird to Lowrance Conversion

Launch the GPSBabel program and select Humminbird Waypoints as the input. Browse to your waypoint file and select it.

Select Lowrance USR as your output file and provide a name for the new Lowrance .usr file to be created.

Select Apply and the program will convert the waypoints and place the newly formatted output file in the destination you chose.

Copy the new Lowrance .usr file onto an Sd card and upload it into your Lowrance Unit.
