I was thinking about this. Having some carp-specific items in the raffle would be nice, but not really necessary. Many of us started off with very generic set ups. So ask yourself "What would these kids get the most value from". I really think 6 foot spinning set ups would be better. Carp are not the only fish out there.

If I was asked to sponsor a kid and supply them with a rod, reel and small tackle box with a variety of hooks and lures; I would. They could bass fish, crappie fish, carp fish, etc. Would the equipment be optimal? No. But I think it could potentially get them on the water more.

Hell, I used basic 6 foot spinning rods until some euro Carper converted me to the dark side. This happened after I caught hundreds of carp, bass, crappie and white bass.

So in short, I would first make sure these kids have basic set ups, and go then into the more specific gear.

Just my opinion.. And if you decide to start such a program, I would be glad to contribute. If you want me to buy a raffle ticket, I will.

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.

I agree with dturnerfish. A 12-13 foot rod might be alittle much for a kid just starting out.

A 6' Ugly Stik (almost indestrutable) might be a good idea. Keep us poseted on the details, I'd like to make it to the event to see it first hand.

I would say 8 to 9 foot rod(s) for carping rather than the shorter Ugly Sticks...

That said, I'd need to know more about both the nature of the organization and the nature of the raffle itself before buying a ticket.
