I did a massive search of the forum but came up shooting blanks. I'd like to build a list of places you can bring your surf rod and cast out for large fish like Stripers, Catfish, etc, etc.

I used to fish behind Granbury dam back in the day for stripers and it was a rush. Water gushing out the dam, casting 100yds or more and pulling in Flatheads, Stripers, Buffalo, Carp, etc. Man...that was a blast!

Obviously, Denison Dam is a great place. Where else can we dam fish at? Thanks for any replies.

---------------------Summaries will be added here for reference------------------

You can fish below Lake Livingston dam with surf rods. I would recommend you bring some waders since you need to wade out to about waist deep to make your cast toward the currents. We were throwing 3-4 oz floater with a curly grub tied about 5-6 ft below. Limit is only 2 below the dam but it was fun catching them.

For flatheads I would head north to Kaw lake and fish below the dam, providing they were releasing some water. It is also has a lot of strippers that move up river from Keystone lake to go on there spawning run. But that is usually in May. Have caught many many flatheads from 20# to 30# there in years past.

You can fish below Lake Livingston dam with surf rods. I was there about 3 weeks ago, and the stripers were hitting pretty much everything. I would recommend you bring some waders since you need to wade out to about waist deep to make your cast toward the currents. We were throwing 3-4 oz floater with a curly grub tied about 5-6 ft below. Limit is only 2 below the dam but it was fun catching them.

I agree with Spec Chaser about the Lake Livingston Dam. The water's up right now & I hear the catfish are really turned on, as well as stripers & some big white bass. Most use those big white casting corks that are like $10 each to cast towards the gates.

If you time it right, the striper and hybrid fishing below he dam at Livingston can be very good....maybe not the biggest stripers around, but a lot of fun nonetheless. This striper went 16 pounds and the hybrid went 11.5 pounds and were caught a couple of weeks ago along with several others.
