Do what you want... you paid your entry fee. And no, your not a sissy for being afraid of lightning. I knew a guy on Cross Lake in Shreveport who was killed by lighting on a boat several years ago!

where are you supposed to be fishing, there should be no more lightning, and a 12 mph wind is nothing but a breeze this time of year.

12mph winds aren't anything to even notice in Tx. The lightning however, is another story. I won't get on the water then either.

I would go cause the weather could change and head in if it looks bad. I too do not mess with lightening. I am always shocked to see guys in my club keep fishing. I got caught in a nasty one last year and laid in the bottom of the boat. Course after the storm passed I won the tourney!

If there is lightning in the area, the whole tournament should be cancelled. If you're afraid of 12mph winds, you may want to take up basket weaving.

Weather predicters aren't good enough to cancel the trip without waking up and possibly going to the lake and then making a decision. I am in construction and 2 weeks ago they called for 100% chance of rain the next day. All of my customers cancelled their jobs. I tried to tell them to wait and make that decision, but I am just a salesman. Next day shows up, not a drop all day.

A: How often is the weatherman right? B: Where are you talking about? C: Make it a tournament day decision. I have gotten all wigged out by the forecast only to show up with it being not so bad.
I won't fish in lightning, but it never hurts to get up and drive to the ramp and make the call then.
I still want to know where in TX it's supposed to be stormy?

Most of the Time Lightening is only in an area for a very short time as T-storms tend to move fairly quickly. So , I would not cancel my whole day because there is a Chance for lightning that will probably only last 30 min anyway.

You don't mess with the big "L". If you didn't fish in 12 mph wind you would wouldn't fish much. I think they call those guy's golfers.

we went out yesterday. weather.com said 15 mph winds. got to the lake and the 15mph winds were actually gail force winds! we fished anyways. why? Cause I'd been at work all day and the time has changed... we caught 7 bass in a couple of hours on the Lew which for us is saying something... It rained a little on us and the wind actually slowed down a lot. Don't fish in lightning...if the wind is blowing like it is get to a cove and stay there. worked for us.

Its your own responsiblity for your safety when on the water. I will go to the bank if it starts lightning in the area. Or if my rod starts buzzing and line floats when casting. I leave when that happens whether its lightning or not. 12mph winds is a light breeze. Especially this time of year. If wind or rain is a concern then tournament fishing is not for you.
