Be sure not to mention that with the 13.59 lber they had an even 23 lbs for second place and first place was over 37 lbs. Love this little jewel of Central Texas.

Like most lakes, Lake Austin is a lot tougher than these reports make it sound. There's a core group of serious LA fisherman. A lot of them post on Austinbassfishing. They know the lake very well.

It's not very big and the boat traffic can get dangerous. Lots of drunk hippies and kids that don't understand boating. Night fishing or during the day on weekdays is almost the only time you can avoid the traffic. Even during the winter people are just riding around.

The secret is the grass. There's a lot of it plus docks and deep channels. None of the other lakes up the Colorado have that amount of grass especially in a concentrated area.

I loved Lake Austin when I lived there but never caught any huge fish but at least I knew there was a chance.

There are definately some big fish in there, but not allot of fish. 30+ fish day's are rare. I never expect to go and catch a bunch of 3-6lb fish while hoping to catch a 10+. You can fish all day and get one bite.

It's kinda humurous that after the last round of share lunkers reported out of Austin, I was passing multiple boats every morning headed north on I-35 for about 2 weeks, then they must all have gotten thier asses handed to them (as Lake Austin is infamous for)and I saw no boats in the last 3 weeks. I passed 1 this morning headed north on my way to work.

As some have mentioned LA will flat out hand your butt back to you on a plate some days. We have variable current, water temp gradient (sometimes as much as 20 degrees+ from one end of the lake to the other) and insane boat traffic on any warm weekend. In the summer it's all week long.

As somebody mentioned above it is a core bunch of guys (myself included) that do enjoy this great little lake in our backyards. Having said that pretty much all of us would prefer Falcon to LA on most given days. There isn't a lot predicting or patterning on LA. There might be a handful of teams that really dial in this lake and can consistently be in the money. It can be a humbling lake as we have seen in the past.

Terry
