I just bought an LSS-1 unit. Yes, I know the LSS-2 comes out on the 15th. I plan to see if Lowrance will exchange it. But that's beside the point. I assume the transducer will be similar. I've heard its a little larger, but still the same basic shape. My question is, where is the best place to mount this transduce on my boat. I don't have a jackplate. I have a step under the transom. The step is about 9.5' deep. See below. So my question is, since the step is recessed, will the edges of the boat interfere with the Structure Scan?

Is the LSS-2 really coming out. The answer is YES. Here is a link to an online store advertising arrival date and price.

Need help, after reading more and more of this thread i think i'm getting more and more confused about the Nema2k connection.

I have decerned that I need one more tee besides what came in the starter kit to link my new 8 to my old 5.

That being said , it looked like from a table posted earlier that the ethernet cable provides more data transfer than the nema2k.

So do i need an ethernet also?

What ever else i need to get to have my unit working i need to get them tommorow so i can finish this install and have my boat ready for the weekend(tourney sat).

I have to go back to bp again, to get another tee and to swap out the lakemaster card for a freeking bird and get another nav card.

do i need to get an ethernet cable as well?

What started out as a trip to get a new transducer for my 5, and deciding to get an 8 and overwhelmed with happiness drooling over that big screen has turned into an installation nightmare. ( multiple trips for different mounts just to get it mounted originally).

I have no nema 2k devices thus far, should i just rip it out and go with ethernet? Or should i leave it in and get an ethernet cable too??

this is driving me crazy.

Further on to my craziness , i plan to get a 7 or another 8 and the lss when my tax return comes in, but i had some thoughts about what to do with the 5 or adding yet another graph.

I would like to have di on the tm also( i think anyway). has anyone added an elete 5 dsi up front with the di on the tm, with a hds next to it to show maps and side scan from the back??

I want to plan out my next purchase better and make sure i cover all of my grounds before that install happens, this one is like pulling teeth...

SO to recap, trying to link 5 to 8, no lss.
I have nema2k starter kit only, but still need another tee.

what d i need to get tomorrow??

Thanks

Hi neighbor! Unfortunately, there is no correct answer to your question until you try it. It's stictly guesswork. There is a "sure-fire" way; however, to learn exactly what your imaging transducer will see before installing it...all in the spirit of avoiding common transducer installation damages. See the "RULES"...they work EVERY time!

If you just want to share waypoints then just run a ethernet cable from the 8 to the 5. I don't know anything about the nmea and don't want to.

To piggy back on what grout said, get the ethernet cable...from the looks on your post, you setting all this up from scratch...if thats the case then at this point just use the e-cable...nema will share nema sensors like temp, fuel, motor info (if applicable, etc.....what we mentioned will get you going for the weekend and probably for awhile until you decide to add sensors....

Thanks for the replies, i just now logged back in after going to bos and getting a new map card and the e-cable. They did not have just the tee's there, i would have had to get a whole nother starter kit,

I took the nema out of the boat, if i ever get anything else to add i will re-run it i guess.

I fired the units up in the garage aftr i got everything done and they do share waypoints now.

thanks.

I have an HDS Gen2 unit with Lake Insight. When I look at the GPS for Lake Fork, I see black lines that I can't find information on. What do the represent? Are the lines on every Lake Insight unit or is mine messed up?

How do you get your screen shots from the HDS unit to your computer so that they can be posted here? Can you give me a step by step process including posting on this forum?

First off, when you turn your HDS graph on you have to go into the menus and find the "screen capture" option. Turn that bubble on. Then when you find an image that you want to take a pic of you push the power button ONCE, it takes a second and the bottom of the screen will say "image captured" or something to that extent. Then when you are done screwing around for the day you have to copy the image (files page) onto a sd card. Put onto photobucket or something similiar, copy the 4 url codes (left click each one) and paste it onto this site (right click). If you are at all computer literate you will figure it out. I am completely computer illetate and finally figured it out.

Forgot to add, you have to turn off the screen capture option in order to power your HDS graph off. Remember it uses the power button.

Just FYI for the forum, I recently asked Lowrance about the launch angle for the LSS-1 structure scan transducer. I received the following response:

The angle size of the Down Scan Signal is listed below.

Measured FORE to AFT X PORT to STARBOARD
800 KHZ: 1.58 deg x 31.75 deg
455 KHZ: 2.79 deg x 55.82 deg
