Anyone know of pond in North Houston that will let you pay to fish? I am looking at taking my daughter and some friends this weekend. I thought I saw one somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paying to fish is not for everybody. But we have more than 400 members who are having a blast paying to fish so that they can enjoy themselves without anybody else on the lake. Comment looked like a bear trap; hope I did not fall in it. I tried to remain calm.

There's a HUUUUGE difference between pond fishing & lake fishing. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, fishing in a stock pond/tank beats bank fishing on a lake hands down. It's the perfect place to take your kiddos.

salex i wasn't trying to get under your skin..i just can't understand why people would pay to fish when we have pubic lakes that are full of fish...don&liz your right fishing in a stocked tank is very different.but in spring time in n.texas i can find constant action from the banks..now as far as trophy trash fish.. yeah a tank is easy to catchem..i live in a subdivision that has tanks and a canal that has bass up to 8 1/2 lbs...but hey thats what makes the usa great..to each his own

Everybody pays to fish in some manner. I know the members at my fishing club pay for convenience among other things. Not far from town, well managed habitats that are both challenging and rewarding, step out of the car and into a boat ready to fish, and if tired, a place to go rest a bit before going out again.

No boat payment, no long trip, no fuel expense, always open, always uncrowded, always safe,no license required, and a host of other things not always obtainable in the public sector.

Plus the experience is very different in private fishing lakes, whether 5 acres or 500 acres than in the public sector. Most of my members do a lot of both.

Me, I bass fish for work so that ain't fishin' its work. I go fishin' in the bay when I get some time off.

If you can find a tank or stock pond where it's "easy" to catch these trophy fish be sure to comment back with the address and phone number. Because no matter what anyone says, you have to have some knowledge to catch the big ones unless your just lucky. Sure you have a higher probability of catching one, but does that make it easier? I tend to think not. Paying to fish has many benefits, if I could afford it I would do both, but unfortunately I can't. This isn't meant to cause argument, I'm simply sick of people that think catching big fish is easy just because they are stocked tanks, that's all

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. ~John Buchan

I once heard a famed "pondmeister" say:
"Some folks think watermelons and fish are free"

N.E. Texas 2 acre and 1/4 acre ponds.

How would you feel if you paid a $100 for you and your bud to fish a "pay lake" and got shut out?

I bet that would suck.

We went to Glacier National Park last summer.. Rented a guide to catch Lake trout. For $350 we caught 3 lousy fish.

Getting shut out happens to all of us. But, I think it makes us appreciate the days when you really whack them!

Another way to look at getting shut out is to appreciate the experience. Quite often you will have seen something in nature that you had not appreciated before. I've had guys tell me that when they catch fish its a bonus. Just being outside without a cell phone or laptop, and seeing a herd of wild pigs that don't see you, a large buck on the ranch road to the lake, bald eagle sitting on a tree snag, nutria the size of a medium sized dog, a flock of turkey coming out of a morning roost, a small gator, otter, armadillos who don't have a clue where you are, skunks, a 8 lb bass with a 13" tilapia stuck in its mouth, a 9 lb bass with a 1 lb bass stuck it is mouth. If some of these sound specific, these are some of the things I've seen during a fishing trip and I thought, ain't God great!

I have fished on private lakes and ponds for the last 7 years. I had a membership at Lakes of Danbury for a year but had to drop it because of some hard times. The fishing there was great but you could fish only one lake and it was a pricey place fish with a few too many restrictions.
From there I found Damon 7 Lakes which has 9 small lakes that you can fish any time on any lake day or night 7 days a week. The lakes are not a well maintained as in mowed grass and sometimes you have to fish with a herd of cows and you have to watch your step but there is always fish biting somewhere. They have bass, cat fish, crappy and blue gill. One small pond is just crappy and one pond is just tiger bass which is their stocking pond
You don't have to have a boat or a boat payment, insurance, maintenance, storage fees, buy gas for the boat and tow vehicle or wear & tear.
My chances of getting shut out are 0. I can always catch something on the crappy pond or the tiger lake and my member is less than $500 a year I think.
That is how I fish I would not have it any other way.

I watched Knot Right Kayyak Fishing tv show and it showed you guys fishing on one of your Private Water Fishing lakes.

I have to admit that I was kinda bummed out that you guys didn't catch any big fish. I kept expecting to see one of you catch a 10 pounders instead of all the dinks.
