I use baby wipes when fishing. At home, dish soap and lemon juice or white vinegar.

yep - that metal "soap" bar does work.

honestly, if you are concerned with smells - get yourself a box of latex gloves (you can find them most anywhere) - the kind that doesn't have powder in them - and use those when you are prepping bait and baiting up.

keep in mind that anything your hands come in contact with (cigarettes, food, wipes, soap, etc) and then come in contact with bait WILL leave that scent on the bait and could possibly be a major deterrent.

I have found my presence at the lake is a major deterrent. Any cure for that?

Does that do any good for you Kevin? Doesn't seem like your catch ratio has gone up much. Lol.

I have noticed that shad is not too tough to get off. Bait a bunch of buffalo on your hooks and that's a whole different story! My wife bought some motion sensored soap thingy that came with soap and it knocks the stank right off first try. Even buffalo!
