...DO NOT TURN IT OFF BY HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON DOWN!... First I have heard of this. What is the reasoning behind that? Not sure, but the guys from Lowrance said it powers down differently that way vs pushing the power button once and scrolling down to power off, enter. They don't even put the proper prodedure in the owners manual so who knows??? But it was something about saving data and some guys were having problems....???? It's just habit since that was the only way to turn off the old graphs.

My HDS 7 is not showing temp. I have a pod style transducer with temp sensor on the trolling motor. Looked at the tag on the transducer cable and selected that particular transducer on the HDS 7 settings. Any ideas why it isn't showing temp? You need to select temp in your overlay data. Temp was selected. here are screen shots from my HDS 7 and my HDS 8 hooked up to the same transducer. I hooked both graph up to the bow and stern with the same results in both locations. HDS 8 displays temperature and HDS 7 displays "---" where temp should be. [img:left] [/img] [img:right] [/img]

Hey Champ, the only thing I can think of is... Work with me here, going by memory and it's not great. There is a setting deep inside one of the menus and there is a setting for temp, it has the option for "global" or "this unit". Find that setting and I'm sorry I can't remember which menu it is but check that. Other than that I'm clueless, also did you turn the network off.

Network is off. today I was just alternating between the two, at the same power and transducer location. I will try to locate temp setting that you are speaking of. I went to the data overlay to check and see if there might be more than one temp source, but no luck there that I found. Thanks for the input. I did hook up the lss-1 and switch over to structure scan and that screen had temp from lss-1 transducer. I'm sure i'll figure it out eventually.

Dang I can't remember which menu it is but it is has the main unit options. I've only been in it once and that was to change how my graphs were sharing info.
You'd be better off asking this question over at bassboatcentral.com Theres a Lowrance board there and those guys know everything!

Anybody have any suggestions at to any pitfalls to installation that I need to avoid. Or any settings that you recommend to a novice.
I have over 5 years of experience with a LMS-332 so lots of the stuff in the manual (which I have already read from cover to cover) is very familure.
****OH...and will I be able to use a SD card to load the HDS with my icons and waypoints from my LMS-332???

Pretty simple Kyle, just take your time and use good old fashioned common sense. Now if your putting the lss ducer on that can be a little pickier. It has to be able to see, if you have a jackplate then it's usually not a problem. I'm not sure if your old graph downloads into the same format as the hds. If nobody helps you out here head over to bbc and ask those fellas.
